Agent of Anderlecht defender Cheikhou Kouyate has revealed Arsenal FC and Liverpool FC are currently in talks over a move in this window.
Cheikhou Kouyate joined Anderlecht from rivals Brussels back in 2008 and after spending a season on loan at Kortrijk, the 24-year-old established himself in the first team. The Senegalese international drew a lot of attention following some wonderful performances in 2012 Olympics and a lot of clubs have monitored his progress since. Wenger was reportedly interested in making a move for him back then, but work permit issues warded off their interest. Kouyate has now been granted Belgium passport and won’t face similar problems now.
AC Milan have also shown interest in him in the past, while PSG have also been linked with a move for him recently, but Kouyate’s agent has revealed that Arsenal and Liverpool are already in talks regarding a move to England in this window.
“I have been in talks with representatives from Liverpool and Arsenal over Cheikhou Kouyate.
“Arsenal are very interested in Kouyate. It’s very likely that he’ll be joining a Premier League club soon.” – Saffet Balkan told the press.
Cheikhou Kouyate has a lot of pace and is versatile enough to also play as a holding midfielder. The Senegalese international, whose current contract expires in 2016, is expected to cost around £5 million. There has been a lot of speculations about the future of Thomas Vermaelen at the Emirates, who is reportedly willing to leave in order to secure regular first team action before the World Cup. Kouyate could be a replacement for the Belgium international. Similarly, reports also suggest a very uncertain future for Liverpool defender Daniel Agger, who has been linked with Barcelona and could leave Anfield in the summer.
