Champions League winner and World Cup finalist Angel Di Maria shattered many Madridista hearts when he joined Manchester United for a club record fee of £59.7m. The Argentine has made a fine start to his career with the Red Devils as the midfielder has racked up 3 goals and 3 assists in just 5 league games.
Before moving to Manchester United, the midfielder was a very important player for Real Madrid under Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti. After the arrival of Bale at the Bernabeu last summer, there were rumours of Angel Di Maria’s transfer but the winger stayed put and accepted to play a deeper role in the midfield to accommodate Bale on the right wing. He flourished in that role playing alongside Alonso and Modric. The Argentine helped Real Madrid win the Copa Del Rey and the Champions League. Di Maria was awarded the man of the match for his brilliant display in the Champions League final.
Di Maria has settled down very well in England since his arrival in the summer transfer window and is continuing his tremendous form into the new season.
The 26-year old feels that moving from Real Madrid to Manchester United is a step up in his career. The winger told MUTV, “Leaving a club like Real and coming to as big a club as Manchester United makes you grow as a player and helps you progress in your career. It was a very important moment and I’m really happy here.
“With every day that goes by, I feel much more relaxed and settled here. I’ve got a house and my family are happy.”
The new signing also praised the fans and acknowledged their support. “Since the day I arrived, people have shown real warmth towards me – at every corner kick or free-kick, or even during open play, every time I have the ball I feel they’re right behind me.
“That always makes you feel even happier. Let’s hope things go well for me so I can be here for many years to come.”
Since arriving at the club, Di Maria has played a pivotal role for Manchester United and cemented his place in the starting 11. The Argentine has flourished and played some of his best football at the club in recent matches. The Manchester United fans are hopeful that Di Maria will help bring the club back on the right track.
The no. 7 was recently voted Manchester United’s Best Player of the month.
