Real Madrid coach confirmed that both his star players will feature in the starting 11 in the Champions League final against city rivals Atletico Madrid. Uncertainty still looms over the fitness of Benzema and Pepe

Carlo Ancelotti confirmed the news that both Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale will start in the Champions league final. Both Ronaldo and Bale have faced injury issues off late, which had only extended Real’s list of injured players which also include Karim Benzema and Pepe.

There was a sense of anxiousness among Real Madrid supporters whether two of their star performers will be fit for the Champions League final. But this news revealed by the Real Madrid coach must have given them a sign of relief.

On the question asked about both the players missing the training session with the team Ancelotti said  “Bale didn’t train because he did specific work in the gym. We preferred that he did that work in the gym and he didn’t need to go out onto the field.

Ronaldo, on the other hand, did not train with the team but preferred doing his own light workout session.

“The two of them are going to play. That is what is important for us.”confirmed the manager.

The manager however, was a little skeptical about the fitness status of Striker Karim Benzema and defender Pepe. He said that they are being closely monitored by the supporting staff and he hoped that they are fit for the final.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who has been in and out of the squad due to injury issues in recent past also felt extremely confident about his fitness, “These things can happen. We train every day and play ever weekend and midweek, so it is normal that sometimes the body reacts negatively. I have had some bad luck and small problems towards the end of the season, but it is normal,” said the Portuguese international while speaking with Real Madrid TV.

The World player of the year also stated that it is every player’s dream to play in a Champions League final and he would not want to miss this opportunity,

“Nobody wants to miss a final, a final we have been aiming for and it is obviously important. If the body can’t do it then it is not the end of the world but I will be there, I am confident”, he said.

Real Madrid will take on city rivals Atletico Madrid on saturday at Estadio da Luz in Lisbon in a quest to become European Champions for a record-breaking 10th time.
