The last Premier League weekend of the year has passed us by and it has produced some memorable moments as we head towards a new year with renewed vigour and hopes. As we look back at the half-way point of the season, it is easy to figure out why everyone believes this will be the most competitive Premier League season of the past decade. The title race is heating up with every passing week and yet there are so many teams so can be considered as contenders. Liverpool were top of the league on Christmas eve and just two defeats later, they are down to fifth, yet just six points behind Arsenal. Competiveness is of course not restricted to race for the title as the relegation battle could possibly be more interesting than the battle at the top. Swansea City at 11th are just five points ahead of Fulham in 18th, while bottom of the table club Sunderland are now unbeaten in their last four games!
Most of the other leagues are of course enjoying the winter break, while Premier League teams deal with the busiest part of their fixture list. Sunderland manager Gus Poyet did join the list of names who have called for a similar winter break in England, but the fans are not complaining at least. Here are the top 10 videos and pictures of this weekend.
Jose Mourinho interrupts Luizai??i??s interview
This was a classic Jose Mourinho moment. The Portuguese manager might have annoyed the Liverpool fans with his post-match comments about Suarez, but this incident perhaps shows why the Chelsea fans canai??i??t get enough of this man.
Lucas shoves Oscar
Apparently Lucas and Juan Mata are good friends.
Seamus Coleman has been sensational this season. This was his fifth goal this season and we are only at the halfway point, and before one forgets, he is a right back.
Best of AC Milan
AC Milan fans havenai??i??t had much to cheer about this season, but this video would probably cheer them up – A wonderful collection of some pretty amazing moments this year for the Italian club.
Everton showed a wonderful gesture in remembering all the Evertonians who passed away this year. The Merseyside club released a tribute to these legends.
Vincent tan booed his own team
Cardiff City are a club in turmoil currently. The owner sacked a manager who has done such an wonderful job at the club and this certainly hasnai??i??t pleased the fans. But it looked as if Vincent Tan will have the last laugh as his side raced to a two goal lead against, but Sunderland scored two goals in the last seven minutes of the match and left the Cardiff owner scratching his head in disgust, so much so that he was even caught booing his own team at the final whistle.
Tom Huddlestone can finally try a different hair-style
He has finally scored the goal which will now allow him to shed his locks and this was all for a good cause as well. Here is the interview of a relieved man.
Suarez ai??i?? Ivanovic
All the pre-match talk was about Suarez and Ivanovic and although neither of them really shined in the game, this is a wonderful picture captured at the start of the game.
Ramirez booked for gifting his shirt to an Everton fan
There are some stupid rules in football but none more outrageous than the rule of booking players for celebrating a goal by taking their shirt off. Gaston Ramirez scored an absolute belter in the match against Everton and then celebrated it by gifting his jersey to a young Everton fan and was booked for this lovely gesture. If a player sees a yellow card for this then there is certainly something wrong with this game.
