PSG interested in Wayne Rooney

According to latest media reports (The Times), PSG are about to make a sensational summer move for Manchester United Striker Wayne Rooney. It is believed that PSG will start with an intial bid of €46m for Englishman.

After failing to dominate the French Ligue in the current season, despite of heavy investments in the previous transfer winsdow, the French Club seems to have prioritized to acquire another striker, to start alongwith Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Although PSG are at the top of the league currently, they are only three points clear of Lyon.

Man United Might Sell to Fund Cristiano Ronaldo’s Return

Reports also suggest that United might contemplate selling Rooney in order to fund the move for Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer. Although the Portuguese winger has been linked with an emotional return to Old Trafford, Real Madrid’s transfer fee demands would realistically put Ronaldo out of United’s reach.

Ironically, it was Ronaldo who was previously linked with a move to Paris. However, the French club have now turned their attention towards Rooney as they consider him to be a much more realistic target than Cristiano Ronaldo.

Rooney’s Exit can create a tactical imbalance

Rooney  will enter the last two years of his contract in the summer and there is no reason to believe that he would not want to re-evealuate his options, after being on the verge of quitting the club a couple of seasons ago over contractual disagreements. The fact that Sir Alex ferguson now has a match winner like Robin van Persie in the squad, could also help Rooney’s exit.

Tactically it would be interesting to see how Sir Alex envisages fitting in two proverbial match winners in Ronaldo and RVP in the same eleven. Cristiano Ronaldo is no more a traditional winger and hardly tracks back, but United and even Madrid didn’t mind that aspect of his game too much as others chipped in, none more than Rooney who often found himself shunted down the left wing to carry the defensive duties.

Now, with both RVP and Ronaldo eyeing the main man’s role, the defensive balance to United’s side would definitely be effected. Wayne Rooney’s selfless nature was often neglected but the Englishman always put team before personal adulation, can United let go off their talisman and in turn the balancing act that Rooney altruistically carried out?
