Barcelona are expected to make one final bid for Chelsea’s David Luiz

“Is that Barcelona calling?” – Chelsea’s David Luiz

It appears that Barcelona have decided to put all their eggs in one basket and will be making a fresh and final bid for Chelsea’s David Luiz in a bid to lure the flamboyant Brazilian from Stamford Bridge. Barcelona have been chasing after a central defender all summer with Thiago Silva of PSG, Daniel Agger of Liverpool being the other sought after players apart from David Luiz,. However, the Catalans seem to have now prioritized David Luiz as the man to strengthen a fragile and leaking defence and will be returning with a fresh bid of €35 million, nearer, but nowhere enough, to Chelsea’s asking price of €50 million after an initial bid of €25 million was rejected by the Londoners.

David Luiz, currently on national duty with Brazil, has so far acted with the utmost professionalism and indifference to the transfer rumors. When quizzed on a possible move to Barcelona, he refused to fuel any speculations and said

I am with Brazil and I only want to talk about that. You can ask me what you want but I am not going to say anything on the matter.

Brazilian team-mate and friend Dani Alves, Barcelona’s right back, has not been so discreet and openly admitted that he would welcome his compatriot to Camp Nou.

“I would be happy if David Luiz would come to Barcelona. I always want the best for my friends and advise them to join Barca if they get the chance,” Alves told El Mundo Deportivo.

He’s not just a friend, but he has a lot of quality, too.

The problem is not whether he would like to come here, but that you have to take him away from Mourinho and that will not be easy.”

David Luiz, a firm favourite among the Chelsea faithful, has steadily grown as a player and leader during his two years at Stamford Bridge, and is seen by many as possible future captain of the club. Even so, the transfer rumors that have continued unabated all summer are sure to have lowered his morale somewhat. And even though Jose Mourinho has insisted that the Geezer is not for sale, this transfer circus is sure ‘as eggs is eggs’ not stopping anytime soon.

Liverpool and Tottenham locked in a two-way battle for Anzhi Makhachakala’ s Willian

Willian: On Liverpool and Tottenham’s radar

The drastic turn of events at Anzhi Makhachkala, much like the extreme weather of Dagestan, has created a dramatic situation at the Russian club. After billionaire owner Suleiman Kerimov pulled the plug and decided that football was not his best interest afterall, Anzhi are now being forced into selling all their star players some of whom signed as recently as January early this year. Samuel Eto’o already has already issue a come-and-get-me plea and now Liverpool, along with Tottenham, are ramping up their interest in Willian, the former Shakhtar Donetsk playmaker.

Both club have unwillingly found themselves in a similar situation this summer, with both their best players seeking transfer moves away from the clubs. The situation on both Suarez and Bale’s front remains unclear and Liverpool and Tottenham are desperate to make marquee signings both as a contingency measure and as a way to satiate an increasingly anxious set of fans. Liverpool are poised to make a bid of £30 million, who will view Willian as an indirect replacement or as a tool of persuasion to keep Suarez at Merseyside. Tottenham will view him as a direct replacement to Bale, should he leave for Real Madrid, and that could yet start a tug-of-war for the talented Brazilian.
