Chelsea FC and Manchester City are eyeing a move for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, while Marquinhos’ agent has confirmed that Manchester United, Barcelona and PSG are interested in the Brazilian defender.
Chelsea and Manchester City are interested in Zlatan Ibrahimovic
The Swedish striker is reportedly unhappy about the arrival of Edinson Cavani at PSG, and is looking leave the club with Chelsea and Manchester City eyeing up a move for him.
Edinson Cavani’s record breaking transfer is a big statement of intent from PSG. The French club, after winning the domestic league last season, are now looking to make their mark in Europe next season. The club can now boast of having two of the best strikers on the planet in their squad presently. But the only question that remains is whether Zlatan and Cavani can possibly feature in the same team.
Reports from France suggest that the big Swedish striker isn’t happy about the signing of Edinson Cavani and has already fallen-out with new manager Laurent Blanc over this issue. It is believed that Zlatan is now looking for a move away from Paris. The 31-year-old will be looking for one last big contract before he goes down the hill. He is on an astronomical wage of £11m a year at PSG currently, and there are only few clubs in the world who can afford anything close to that figure.
Real Madrid have already been linked with a move for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and recent reports suggest that Chelsea and Manchester City are also monitoring his situation at Paris. Both Chelsea and City are in the market for a new striker, ironically both of them missed out on Edinson Cavani in the first place after refusing to meet Napoli’s high demands. Chelsea have also missed out on Falcao earlier this summer, while Robert Lewandowski’s decision to join Bayern Munich next season meant there were very few options left for them. Manchester City have already lost Balotelli and Tevez, and are likely to lose Edin Dzeko as well (who incidentally has also been linked with Chelsea) this summer. They would definitely need to strengthen their striker force ahead of next season.
Even at 31, Zlatan still has a good two-three seasons ahead of him. Moreover, after winning 10 league titles in his last 12 seasons with six different teams and four different leagues, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has always proved to be a winner. But he won’t come cheaply, on the top of his high wage, PSG are unlikely to sell their star striker for anything less than £26 million, as he still has two years left in his current contract. However, if Chelsea or Manchester City do manage to land him this summer, it will certainly make the spice up the league, as apart from his footballing abilities, there are few footballers who can match the enigma and character of Zlatan.
Man United, PSG and Barcelona make their move for Marquinhos, confirms agent
Agent of Marquinhos has claimed that Roma have received offers from Manchester United, PSG and Barcelona for the Brazilian defender.
The 19-year-old made a name of for himself last season, after breaking into the Roma first team and putting up some fantastic displays at the back. The Brazilian U-23 international was signed by Roma back in 2012 from Corinthians and Marquinhos has made tremendous progress since his arrival.
The Giallorossi have recently signed the Morocco International, Mehdi Benatia, for a reported €13.5 million fee from fellow Serie A outfit Udinese, on a five-year contract. It is believed that Benatia is a direct replacement for Marquinhos, who is destined to leave Rome this summer. Earlier it was reported that his agent has already negotiated a move to PSG for a transfer fee of €35 million. But now his agent, Roberto Calenda, has revealed that PSG are not the only club interested in the Brazilian defender.
“Roma has told us that there is the possibility of a sale, and we’ll respect the decision they take. There are offers from PSG, Barcelona and Manchester United, and it’s possible the club accepts one of those.” – Calenda was quoted in press.
For Barcelona, PSG defender Thiago Silva remains their priority this summer as they look to strengthen their faltering defence. But Marquinhos will be a fine addition to the squad as he also has age on his side. Manchester United’s interest is a bit surprising though, considering the number of defenders they have in the squad. Even though there are concerns about the fitness of Vidic and age of Rio Ferdinand, David Moyes would still have the likes of Jones, Smalling and Evans to call upon into the side.
Marquinhos is one undoubtedly one of the best young defender plying his tread in Europe at the moment. He is versatile and can play anywhere across the back-four and has also played as a holding midfielder. He has tremendous pace – a rare commodity about center-backs -, wonderful ability to read the game and excellent in the air. Now with three big clubs interested in him, it would be interesting to see how and where he develops in the future as he faces the prospect of taking the biggest leap of his career so far.
