Touted as the next Xavi, 21 year old Koke from Atletcio Madrid is rumoured to be on Manchester United’s radar in the coming transfer season. With the release clause rumoured to be around £16 million, it is expected that David Moyes will trigger the release clause to bring the Spaniard to England.
Having played an important part in Atletico Madrid’s campaign last year that saw them win the Copa del Rey against Real Madrid in a historic final at Santiago Bernabeu, the young midfielder has proven his worth on the international stage. Coming up the youth ranks at Atletico Madrid, he made his senior-team debut at a very young age of 21 and has now asserted his presence in the La Liga. An integral part of the team, he has been won the Europa League, UEFA Super Cup and the Copa del Rey so far in his career. Having played alongside players like Radamel Falcao, Sergio Aguero, Diego Forlan and David Villa, the youngster is believed to be thirsting for European glory and might make a move this January to the English giants, Manchester United.
Complete with brilliant passing skills, Koke has the ability to control a game and dictate its pace to suit his own team. An attribute, Manchester United is in eager need of. Struggling to find the right balance in the midfield, United have been vulnerable and haven’t been able to find their momentum due to a lack of quality centre midfielders. With Carrick often flirting with injuries, David Moyes is often left without any good options in midfield and the results are for all to see. Labouring against relatively smaller sides, Manchester United have been left exposed in the middle. Many believe that Koke will be the ideal player at Manchester and will help rebuild a side on the verge of a collapse.
But will David Moyes be able to rope in the youngster even if he meets the release clause? That is an extremely important question given the fact that Moyes was unable to land any big names this past summer and had to settle with Marouane Fellaini. Struggling in the league, Moyes has clearly not been able to garner much respect so far in his position at the Old Trafford. And a young player like Koke might be reluctant to put his future in the hands of a manager like Moyes, who himself is struggling to handle his new job.
While Manchester United are interested in the Spaniard, the situation might turn into a bidding war with reportedly other teams entering into the fray. Liverpool have expressed a desire to bring the young star to Anfield and many believe that Jose Mourinho and Pellegrini too have been keeping an eye on the midfielder. Despite the wild speculation, what remains sure is that Koke has established himself as one of the hottest property in Europe at the tender age of 21.
