Chelsea FC complete the signing of Marco van Ginkel, Nicolas Anelka close to joing West Brom, while Tottenham Hotspur striker Emmanuel Adebayor is wanted at Besiktas.
Nicolas Anelka close to joining West Brom
Nicolas Anelka is seemingly on the move once again and this time back to England with West Brom Albion.
The Frenchman has been quite a traveller. If he joins West Brom, it will be his 11th club in his professional career, which started with PSG back in 1996. His longest spell at a single club came at Chelsea, where he spent four years before joining Shanghai Shenhua in China! He was accompanied him his team mate former Chelsea team mate Didier Drogba, but his short spell at the Asian club was an unhappy one. Anelka was also the part of manager Jean Tigana’s coaching staff. But the club was soon engulfed in controversy off the field and Anelka finally left all the chaos behind and joined Juventus in the January transfer window on a loan deal.
Although he made only three appearances for the Italian club, he ended up with another title in his kitty as Juve went on to win the Serie A. It means Anelka has now league titles with four different clubs in three different countries across Europe along with the Champions League he won with Real Madrid – an incredible feat.
But the 34-year-old is showing no signs of slowing down and according to latest reports, he is currently undergoing a medical at West Brom and is expected to sign a two year contract with the English club. At West Brom he will reunite with Steve Clarke who was part of the Chelsea set-up when he joined them back in 2008.
Besiktas bid for Tottenham Hotspur for Emmanuel Adebayor
Emmanuel Adebayor’s future at the White Hart Lane has been up for speculations this summer after he struggle in front of the goal last season.
The 29-year-old striker started his Tottenham career brightly when he was signed on loan from Manchester City back in 2011 and he went on to score 18 goals and provided 12 assists in 37 appearances for the London club during that spell. But his form has taken a nose dive since he has completed his move to Tottenham permanently last summer.
The former Arsenal striker scored only eight goals last season as Spurs missed out on Champions League qualification once again despite leading their arch rivals for most part of the season. With a better striker upfront Tottenham could have eased into Europe last season and could have even made further progress in the Europa League.
Manager Andre Villas Boas is in the market for a new striker as looks to add more fire power up front and it is believed that Adebayor is no longer a part of his future plans at White Hart Lane. Spurs have already been linked Brazilian forward Damiao and David Villa, while they have already acquired the service of Paulinho.
Besiktas and Monaco were linked with the Togolese international, although recent reports suggested that the Turkish clubs are leading the race for his signature. Besiktas director Ahmet Piper has now revealed that they have already submitted a bid and waiting for negotiations with the London club for the sale for the striker.
“It is certainly true that we are looking at the idea of a transfer. We have made a serious bid for Adebayor.
“That, in turn, has given us a figure for the player, which is slightly above the amount that we imagined.
“However, making a signing as big as this immediately is nothing but a dream.
“Negotiations always take a long time. I hope that we will get a chance to have a meeting soon.” – Piper was quoted in press.
Chelsea completes the signing of Marco van Ginkel
Chelsea have completed the signing of Dutch international Marco van Ginkel from Vitesse.
The 20-year-old was being monitored by the London club for a long time and it was only a matter of time before they made their move. Ginkel is rated highly back in Holland and at such a young age he has already made 93 appearances for the Dutch club. He was a regular in the starting line-up since the age of 17 and he has been often compared with Chelsea legend Frank Lampard. He has already made his debut for the Dutch senior national team and was recently seen in action at the U21 European championship.
“Chelsea Football Club and Vitesse Arnhem have reached an agreement for the transfer of Marco van Ginkel.
“The player will join Chelsea subject to a medical, agreement of personal terms and legal documentation.” – Read a statement on the club’s official website.
The transfer fee involved in this move is reported to be around £8 million. Chelsea now have excellent mixture of youth and experience in the squad, although it is yet to be seen how much of an opportunity these youngsters get under new manager Jose Mourinho – who has a reputation of preferring experience over youth. But Marco van Ginkel’s arrival has once again put question marks over the future of Josh McEachran at the club. The 20-year-old has spent most of the last two seasons on loan – first to Swansea and then to Middlesbrough – as he has failed to break into the first team. It is yet to be seen whether these youngsters will experience a change in approach from Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge next season.
