Jose Mourinho insists he is happy with the current Chelsea FC squad amid rumours of interest in Rooney, while AS Roma have completed the signing of Morgan De Sanctis from Napoli.
Chelsea haven’t made a second bid for Rooney, confirms Jose Mourinho
Jose Mourinho has said that the club haven’t made any further offer for Rooney and insists that they are happy with the current squad.
Chelsea’s opening bid for Rooney, which was rejected by Manchester United, went public after the club issued a statement in order to stop the rumours which claimed that the London club have offered Juan Mata in exchange for the England international. But not further development were made in their pursuit for the striker, who seemed like a priority for Mourinho after the club missed out on Falcao and Cavani this summer.
But the Portuguese manager has revealed that the club haven’t gone back with a second offer for Rooney and insisted that they are currently happy with the squad at disposal.
“At this moment we have made what you know; that bid which was public and official and after that nothing else.
“But we are calm as we told you that we are calm because we are happy with what we have.” – The Chelsea manager told the press.
This statement will come as a ray of hope for the likes of Lukaku, Torres and Ba. Arrival of a new striker would have pushed them down the pecking order – It hugely important for the Blues to show their faith in Lukaku, in particular, this season. The Belgium international has shown what he is capable during his loan spell at West Brom last season, where he outscored every other Chelsea player in the league. Although one cannot rule out Chelsea making a last minute bid for Rooney.
Roma complete the signing of Morgan De Sanctis from Napoli
AS Roma have completed their move for Napoli goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis, the Italian has confirmed.
Roma were in the market for new goalkeeper following the departure of Maarten Stekelenburg to English Premier League side Fulham earlier this summer. Mauro Goicoechea, who was on loan from Danubio last season (and replaced Stekelenburg in the side when he was injured), has also returned to Uruguayan club. This meant Roma were left with 35-year-old Bogdan Lobont, who made five appearances in the league last season, and 19-year-old youngster Tomas Svedkauskas as the only goalkeepers in the squad.
So the Italian club were in desperate need of a replacement as neither Lobont nor Svedkauskas would have been handed over the no.1 jersey – Lobont isn’t reliable enough, while Svedkauskas is too inexperienced. Morgan De Sanctis seems to be a very sensible signing, as it will not affect the long-term progress of Svedkauskas. The 36-year-old, who has made six appearances for the Italian national team has spent four successful season at Napoli and has been on the pillars of Walter Mazzarri’s team. He was in fine form once again last season as he kept 14 clean sheets in the league and helped the Naples based club finish second in the league.
But De Sanctis’ future at the club was in doubts after the departure of Mazzarri and arrival of Rafa Benitez. Napoli have secured the signing of Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina on loan (with a possibility that it could turn out to be a permanent deal in the future), and the Spaniard will be handed over the no.1 jersey.
De Sanctis left Napoli’s Dimaro training camp and flew back to Rome. He has confirmed that a deal has been agreed between both the clubs and he is looking forward to joining the team.
“It’s all agreed. I’m here to work hard and to have a great season.” – The Italian said.
