AS Roma sign Moroccan defender Mehdi Benatia. Daniele De Rossi on the verge of a big decision. Liverpool seem unlikely to hold onto their star striker.
AS Roma sign Mehdi Benatia
The Giallorossi have signed the Morocco International for a reported €13.5 million fee from fellow Serie A outfit Udinese, on a five-year contract. Though not exactly a household name just yet, the acquisition of the centre-back fuels the speculation that Roma’s Brazilian youngster Marquinhos could be subject to a transfer. Though Paris Saint-Germain’s Thiago Silva remains FC Barcelona’s number one transfer target, the Blaugrana are also credited with an interest in the Roma defender. According to reports the Italian side has put a €30 million price-tag on Marquinhos.
Barcelona’s hunt for a top-class centre-back probably won’t be resolved until the last days of the summer transfer window but Roma’s capture of a Benatia offers an interesting twist.
Daniele De Rossi on the move?
Continuing with the Giallorossi, Roma’s Capitan Futuro’s non-inclusion in the club’s pre-season preparations in Riscone lends itself to all sorts of speculation – among them an imminent transfer to Chelsea FC. However, it must be noted that the Italian International appeared at the Confederations Cup and probably on a vacation after the tournament concluded like many of his colleagues, who also played in the competition. Still, a move to Stamford Bridge can’t be ruled out since Jose Mourinho is a long-term admirer of the midfielder and John Obi Mikel’s future uncertain.
Manchester City to revive their interest in Stevan Jovetic, EdinDzeko set to stay
Apparently the Citizens’ appetite for forwards is insatiable. After being linked with PSG’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic the Sky Blues shifted their focus to Fiorentina’s Jovetic, who the Italian side value at around €30 million. The arrival of proven hitman Mario Gomez at a cut-price €16 million in Florence should soften the departure of Jovetic in the event of a transfer.
Though Manchester City are thought to be interested in quite a few strikers, selling one is not part of their plans. Citizen’s Manuel Pellegrini has categorically ruled out a transfer of Edin Dzeko.
“I spoke two weeks ago with Dzeko when he was on holiday and he does not have any problems,” Pellegrini said.
“He will stay here. For me, he’s a very important player. I’m sure that he will give this year the performances to show what he can do.”
Luis Suarez set for anywhere else but Liverpool
Since Real Madrid’s interest has cooled off or was never legitimate to begin with, anywhere but Liverpool seems to be the mantra of Suarez. Red’s boss Brendan Rodgers is fighting tooth and nail to prevent the Uruguay International from leaving Anfield – to no avail it seems.
It’s pretty obvious that the former Ajax Amsterdam player has his heart set at leaving the Merseyside outfit because his ambitions of winning trophies aren’t met at his current club. From the looks of it the speculation surrounding Suarez is set to continue throughout the remainder of the transfer window, perhaps even beyond, if not a suitable buyer emerges, who satisfies the players ambition and Liverpool’s evaluation which stands at a hefty £40 million (€46 million).
