Daniele de Rossi poised to become Jose Mourinho’s next midfield signing, while Manchester City look set to replace Carlos Tevez with Stevan Jovetic, after holding talks with his agent.

AS Roma appear to be on the verge of signing Kevin Strootman, paving the way for De Rossi to move to Chelsea

According to latest reports, Italian side AS Roma are very close to completing the deal for 23-year old Dutch midfielder Kevin Strootman from PSV Eindhoven. The fee is believed to be in the region of €15m. This move, if true, will facilitate the move for Daniele de Rossi to Chelsea, who are willing to offer the Italian a 4-year contract worth 110,000 pounds per week.

Jose Mourinho is a big admirer of the player, and even tried to sign him for Inter and Real Madrid, if various publications are to be believed.

Roma, additionally, want Chelsea to loan them their highly-rated Brazilian fullback Wallace for a season, and now that the deal for Strootman appears to be sorted, everything may soon fall in place for all parties.

THT Verdict: Very likely. Chelsea need to add some steel, some experience to their central midfield, to complement the impressive young talent such as van Ginkel, Hazard, Mata, Oscar, De Bryune on their roster, and who better than Daniele de Rossi to fill in the void. If Chelsea manage to sign the 29-year old Italian for £10-12 million a nd restrict his salary to around 100K GBP, it will prove to be a good move for the London club. Rossi will bring with him a wealth of experience to this young Chelsea side and will walk into the first team as a first choice defensive midfielder. Either as a lone holder in a 4-3-3 or as part of the pivot in a 4-2-3-1, De Rossi is a better bet than anyone on the squad at the moment, and his signing will force the likes of Mikel, Romeu and even Essien to up their game by at least a couple of notches if they are to feature regularly for the team. Furthermore, Chelsea are anyway considering loan options for Wallace and if Roma demand to include the right-back in the deal (loan), then it will make perfect sense for Chelsea and Wallace to accept the proposal.

Stevan Jovetic is closer to a move than he has ever been, and Manchester City appear to be leading the race to sign him

Fioretina JoveticThe Mirror is reporting that Jovetic’s agent, Fali Ramadani, held extensive talks with City recently, after Fiorentina agreed to finally part ways for their talented forward. The Italian side recently completed the signing of Mario Gomez from Bayern Munich and are better prepared to handle the departure of a player, who’d been widely linked with various clubs in the last 2-3 years.

Other Premier League clubs such as Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and even Manchester United were believed to be in the fray for the 23-year old, but as of today, City appear closest to adding him to their squad. Previously, Italian champions Juventus were considered to be his likely destination but after the negotiations fell through, Juve went ahead and signed Tevez and Llorente to bolster their attack for the upcoming season.

THT Verdict: Maybe. Manchester City share a good working relationship with Fiorentina, having purchased Nastasic from them in a deal which say Savic move the other way. And having sold Tevez and losing Cavani, they are in the market for a versatile forward. With options drying out, Jovetic, who can play out wide or as a support striker, appears to be a good bet to bank on. The only problem with the forward is his injury-prone record; otherwise, he has been the standout performer in Serie A for a good 3-year period now. However, from the player’s perspective, a move to clubs such as Arsenal and Liverpool may make more sense, if playing time and not wages is his primary concern. Anyway, with reports emerging of talks already being held with City, he does appears closer to becoming Manuel Pellegrini’s latest recruit than anything else.
