Asier Illarramendi Joins Real Madrid
The former Real Sociedad player will be working under Carlo Ancelotti in the Spanish capital this coming season. Real Madrid had to meet Real Sociedad’s buyout clause of 34 million euros to tie the promising Spanish youngester, seen by many as Xabi Alonso’s heir, for six years. Illarramendi played a key role in Real Sociedad’s qualification for this year’s Champions League playoff and was one of the star performers in the Spanish team that won the Under 21 European Championship earlier this summer, but only time will tell if he will be worth the quite exorbitant fee Real Madrid paid for him.
The Spaniard has become Ancelotti’s fourth summer signing, after Isco, Carvajal and Casemiro, and more might be yet to come as the the club once again aims to dethrone Barcelona in La Liga. Regarding the transfer, Illarramendi said:
“It hasn’t been an easy decision, it has been very difficult for me to decide because Real Sociedad have given me so much. I was on holiday when we started to hear about the interest from Real Madrid. There were contacts, we mulled it over and came to the conclusion that it was an offer we couldn’t refuse. It’s a unique opportunity.
I thank the board, the academy coaches, the backroom staff and my team-mates. I wish them all the best. This club will achieve great things.”
Manuel Pellegrini eyeing move for Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Manchester City already have a vast pletheora of forwards in their ranks, but Manuel Pellegrini is still looking for another one to complete the puzzle, with moves for Alvaro Negredo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic the most rumoured after his reported fall-out with PSG’s new coach. After excelling in the Serie A, Ligue 1, La Liga, Dutch League, a move to the Premier League might be on the cards for the Swedish striker, who has a knack for winning league competitions wherever he goes.
The prospect of linking up with the likes of Sergio Aguero, David Silva and co. and win another trophy for his collection might be enough to tempt Ibrahimovic to join City.
Wayne Rooney to Move to Arsenal or Chelsea
One of the main questions in the Premier League at the moment is where Wayne Rooney will play his trade this season after issuing yet another transfer request at the end of last season. David Moyes seems confident he will have the English strikers at his disposal, but interest from the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea might tempt the club to sell the striker. Chelsea’s manager José Mourinho has declared his interest and Chelsea definitely have the financial means to lure Rooney, while Arsenal are also rumoured to be interested.
Where Rooney ends up in September might end up playing an important role in the balance of power in the Premier League in this coming season.
