Montenegrin star Stevan Jovetic is believed to be heading to England with Manchester City preparing a bid Fiorentina cannot possibly reject while in a sudden turn of events Arsenal are now reportedly in serious contention for Liverpool’s Luiz Suarez. That leaves Gonzalo Higuain’s future pretty undecided.
Manchester City inching close to Stevan Jovetic
Manchester City are reported to be on the verge of signing Fiorentina star Stevan Jovetic for £28m. While the City heirarchy will be incredibly happy if this news is true, there is also news emanating from Spain that Sevilla will not sell Alvaro Negredo for less than what they propose. With the Spanish club already losing Jesus Navas, they are playing hard ball and hoping to milk as much cash as possible and if not, retain the striker for another season.
‘Maicon didn’t come here (South Africa) to the pre-season and he will not stay in the squad at Manchester City this year.’ – Manuel Pellegrini
Staying on City, the annual culling process is in full force with Kolo Toure, Wayne Bridge and Roque Santa Cruz, all leaving as free agents and the Brazilian full-back, Maicon subject of a £4m bid from Roma which is reported to be a done deal. Aleksander Kolarov, who was heavily linked to Juventus is expected to stay back and fight with Gael Clichy for his place in the starting XI.
Arsenal prepare a mega bid for Luis Suarez
On the other hand, Liverpool’s Luis Suarez is yet to decide his future. With statements in the past few weeks making it clear that the Uruguayan would prefer a move away from Merseyside, Arsenal appear to be the most interested party in the controversial striker. After their initial bid of £30m was rejected, Arsenal seem to have upped their bid to a club record £35m to entice Liverpool to the negotiating table.
To make their intentions further clear, Arsenal appear to have gone cold in their pursuit of Gonzalo Higuain as Real Madrid have asked the striker to report to training effectively putting an end to the Arsenal-Higuain saga atleast for now.
Higuain may have a future at Napoli, or maybe not!
Staying on Higuain, the Italian media is certain that Napoli will offer €30 million for the Argentine as Rafa Benitez prepares for life after Edinson Cavani’s departure to PSG. But Rafa Benitez ruled out signing a prolific striker but added that he was looking to sign a forward. Now for the important question, Is Gonzalo Higuain a prolific striker or just an ordinary forward?
“After Cavani goes, we won’t be looking for a striker who can score 40 goals a season. We have a second line made up of Mertens, Hamsik and Alley, who can all score goals.” – Rafa Benitez
“We are looking for a forward, but they can all score,” he concluded.
Finally an encouraging news for Liverpool after all the brouhaha about Luis Suarez.
‘It is up to Christian what he wants,’ De Boer said. ‘If he feels good going to Liverpool, then it is up to him. I would want nothing more than having him with us for a few more years.
‘But we realise the interest in this kind of player is huge. And I can also understand that he wants to make another step in his career. I can’t stop him.’
Having lost out on Mkhitaryan, Liverpool are looking at Ajax’s talent factory to secure the services of Christian Eriksen. The Merseyside club have been reported to be interested in securing him and with De Boer admitting that he has no problem with such a move, Liverpool can be expected to act quickly.
With all the major clubs hoping to make their moves, Manchester United also have some rumors tailing them. David Moyes’ new club are now being linked to Maroune Fellaini of David Moyes’ old club after the Thiago Alcantara saga and Fabregas enquiry.
