Swansea City boss Michael Laudrup has ended speculations regarding his future at the club as he signed a one-year contract extension at the Liberty Stadium.
Michael Laudrup signed a two-year contract back in June last year when he replaced Brendan Rodgers at Swansea. But after grabbing the attention of big European clubs with Swansea’s incredible performances in the league and cup competitions, Laudrup’s future was up for speculation. Chelsea, Manchester City and Real Madrid were linked with the 48-year-old manager, under whose guidance the Wales club lifted their first League cup trophy last month, beating Bradford in the final.
Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins even revealed in a recent interview that the club was already preparing for life without Laudrup if he decides to leave them at the end of the season, but now the former Danish international has ended all the speculations surrounding his future by signing a new one-year extension at the club.
The former Barcelona player stated that he is already looking forward to leading Swansea into their European campaign next season.
“We’ve started something this season that I want to continue. I know there has been a lot of speculation (about my future), but I’ve always said that I am happy here and I never had any doubts I would stay.
“I am delighted to sign the new deal and I’m already really looking forward to next season. I hope there will be some very exciting things happening with the team and with the club in Europe.” – Laudrup said in an interview to the club’s official website.
Huw Jenkins was also delighted with this move and the Swansea Chairman hoped that Laudrup can help the club move forward with his knowledge of the game.
“This is a major boost for everyone involved with Swansea City, from the players, staff and board of directors through to the most important people of all, our supporters.
“You can never guarantee how things will work out when you employ a new manager, especially after the success we’ve had in recent seasons, but I think everyone has seen for themselves that Michael has helped take this football club to another level.
“He is a pleasure to work with because he shares the same philosophy as everyone at this football club. He has ensured that we have progressed again this season and I am convinced his knowledge, experience and expertise will ensure we keep moving forward for the next few years.” – Jenkins was quoted in press.
This comes as a huge boost for the Wales club who have caught the imagination of nearly neutral fans with their wonderful football. No other club in the Premier League has progressed, both on the field and off it, like Swansea have done over the past couple of seasons. Although many experts believed back then that Rodgers’ departure could prove to be a major blow for the club, Laudrup has taken the club to another level during his stint. Michael Laudrup is already a legend at Swansea.
