The Mirror has reported that Spurs could make a double swoop for Shakhtar Donetsk playmaker Willian and Internacional striker Leandro Damiao in a bid to strengthen their Champions League credentials.

The summer was a time of major upheaval at the Lane with Harry Redknapp departing the shores along with influential playmaker and midfield lynchpin Luka Modric. Furthermore, Rafael Van Der Vaart too made his exit from North London Tottenham were now staggeringly short of quality attacking options.  Although Gylfi Sigurdsson and Clint Dempsey were brought in to provide much needed fire power, the duo have been decent at best but the Lily Whites would be yearning for more quality upfront.

Leandro Damio has been on Spurs’ radar for a while now and hence it is hardly a surprise that AVB would look at that option to strengthen his striking department which has largely been carried on Jermaine Defoe’s shoulders. Adebayor has been poor this term and had it not been for Bale’s goals from the flanks, Spurs would be some bother. Hence, Damio would’s acquisition would represent a sensible move for Tottenham and definitely aid their surge up the table.

This deal could be imminent as AVB has already hinted at buying in the January transfer window.

The interest in Shakhtar star Willian is definitely for real, however this deal doesn’t look as straightforward as the Damio one and the reasons are two folds. Firstly Donetsk have been sensational in this season’s European Cup and have progressed to the knock out stages, where they have a winnable draw against another young team in Dortmund. Secondly, Willian has been on the radar of plethora of big clubs around Europe, Chelsea for example are known admirers. Ergo, there are major tumbling blocks on the way. Donestk would like to keep hold of their prized asset and if push comes to the shove sell at the premium to the highest bidder. Spurs might struggle to match the spending muscle of a Chelsea or City if it came down to a bidding war.

Wilian deal might not materialize but Spurs can be hopeful in the pursuit of Damio.
