England manager Roy Hodgson will be present at White Hart Lane during tonight’s Europa League clash to watch over Dawson and Parker of Tottenham Hotspur.
Roy Hodgson is in the look out for central defenders ahead of England‘s World Cup Qualifying matches against minnows San Marino and contenders Montenegro. San Marino might not be big challenge for the 3 Lions, but Montenegro are more than a match for the English team and Roy Hodgson is sweating his fitness of the availability of Center Backs.
John Terry has found the playing time limited and injuries have almost curtailed his career. Rio Ferdinand is a forgotten man in Roy Hodgsons books and his age might not be ideal for a double challenge. Manchester City’s Julian Lescott was a regular squad member in Fabio Capello era, but nowadays he is surplus to the requirements at City and hence the English think tank might not prefer a CB lacking the game time. Julian Lescott’s chances of making it to the 3 Lions squad is also slim. Phil Jagielka was an automatic choice, but his injury means he is unavailable.
As of now Gary Cahill is the only automatic choice in the heart of the defence. Manchester United’s young duo of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones are also major contenders, but the latter is doubtful due to an injury scare. Stoke’s Ryan Shawcross is also a major contender as the physical defence of the potters has been a tough nut for the opposition to crack.
The injuries and lack of playing time of English center backs has come at the wrong time for Roy Hodgson and he is in a selection dilemma at the moment. As we have witnessed, it might be a blessing in disguise for the Tottenham captain Michael Dawson. He has been the pillar behind Tottenham’s unbeaten run of 12 games in Premier League and is staking claims at the right time to make a comeback into the national team. Dawsons recent form has coupled with Tottenham’s defensive superiority and in turn the shaky defence has been turned into a rock by the Lillywhites skipper.
Dawson’s performance hasn’t gone unnoticed as Roy Hodgson is heading to White Hart Lane for Tottenham’s Marquee fixture against Inter Milan in the Europa League. Roy Hodgson’s scouting trip might be more beneficial to a number of Spurs players as Scott Parker has been putting consistent displays and might earn a recall along with skipper Michael Dawson. Another Beneficiary might be Young and upcoming center back Steven Caulker who has earned his first cap under Roy Hodgson back in August. It will also be a chance to monitor the progress of England team regulars Kyle Walker, Aaron Lennon and Jermain Defoe.
