Arsenal FC Latest News – Manager, Arsene Wenger believes that a ‘positive environment’ and fans’ support are some of the main reasons behind the team’s current run of form.
Arsenal have made a fantastic start to their league campaign and currently lead the Premier League table with a two-point lead over Liverpool and Tottenham. They have also taken control of what was expected to be a tough Champions League group with a fine display against Napoli in the midweek. The first half performance against the Italian club was one of Arsenal’s best in recent times and was proof of how the side is currently brimming with confidence.
While the arrival of Ozil and Flamini and the remarkable revival of Aaron Ramsey have been highlighted as key reasons behind Arsenal’s current success, Arsene Wenger feels that the ‘positive atmosphere’ in the club and among the fans is another major contributor behind the current run of form.
“What is positive is that the team plays better when the environment is positive
“We played in a sceptical environment last year and that does not create a great level of confidence. What has changed recently for sure is that our environment is positive, our fans believe in us again.” – The Arsenal manager said.
The Frenchman has faced a lot of criticism from the fans in the last few seasons, but this season the accolades have been pouring in from all corners. Arsene Wenger believes that earning the fan’s belief was of huge importance.
“That of course is very important if we want to be successful, if you feel your fans believe in you and they think that you are good. I’ve said many times that I feel it’s important for the team to feel that the fans stand behind the team.
“On my side, my job I see the other way – it’s not for the fans to make me happy, it’s my job to make the fans happy. I feel I do that if they stand behind the team, because that gives you the feeling that they have done something right.” – Wenger added.
There is a belief that this will be the season when Arsenal finally end their trophy drought, and some even consider them favourites for the Premier League title, based on their current performances. But Arsene Wenger remains grounded and has brushed off all talk of an early coronation. He maintained that it is too early to judge teams and wants his side to maintain their focus.
“What is important is to put that all into perspective and you know that it’s the hype around the game.
“It’s positive because it shows the huge interest but as well people tend to judge the moment as the definitive situation but you know it’s just a photo of the situation, of the moment you talk.
“We want of course to win trophies but that is all to do. The only way we have a chance to do it is to try to focus on the way we play.” – Wenger said.
Perspective is a very key word in football, and Wenger perhaps wants both his players and the fans to maintain theirs at this point of the season. The Hawthorns is the next stop for the Gunners, before the long international break kicks in. A good result against West Brom would certainly leave Wenger’s boys smiling all the way.
