Manchester City have completed the signing of Spanish winger Jesus Navas from Sevilla.
Jesus Navas becomes the second signing of the season for the Manchester based club, as they look to rebuild the squad after a disappointing season last time around. Interestingly, City are yet to announce their manager for the next season, although Manuel Pellegrini is almost certain to be appointed at the helm, so Txiki Begiristain is the man who is pulling all the strings at Etihad at the moment.
Jesus Navas, who has been signed for £14.9m from Sevilla, has spent over 13 years at his boyhood club. The winger will definitely add a different dimension to Man City’s attack, which was too narrow and predictable at times last season. Manchester City with these signings, unlike last summer where they were reluctant in the transfer market, have made a huge statement of intent to their rivals.
Navas has expressed his delight at the joining the English club and hopes that this move will help him develop further as a footballer.
“Manchester City is an exciting project and this is the right moment for me to take this step. I’m very happy with the opportunity and the decision.
“The Premier League is a competition where the football is very fast and will suit the way I play. I’m really looking forward to it.
“I’m going to a great club in England and I want to continue developing my game there. The club has put a lot of faith in me and I want to repay them out on the pitch.” – The new Manchester City recruit was quoted on the club’s website.
Navas is an exciting talent, whose career has often been held back due to his problems homesickness. He was close to securing a move to Chelsea back in 2006, but he denied the opportunity as he couldn’t move out of Seville. Even his international career has suffered due to this. But it seems that the 27-year-old has finally been able to rise above those problems and his addition to the Premier League, will excite fans across the world.
He is a very traditional winger, a rare commodity these days, who likes to hug the touchline and take on full-backs with his blistering pace. Navas is also a fine crosser of the ball and if Cavani, as rumoured, joins the club, he will find plenty of service from the wings. City are definitely building a team to watch out for next season.
