Manchester United are lining up a move for Sevilla left-back Alberto Moreno as the long-term replacement for Patrice Evra.
Patrice Evra’s future at the club has been under constant speculation this season. The Frenchman’s current contract expires in June next year and recent reports suggest that the 32-year-old is unlikely to sign an extension with the reigning Premier League champions. Evra’s consistency has gone down since the past season and Manchester United are lining up a long-term replacement for him. United were linked with Everton left-back Leighton Baines in the summer and they failed with a bid for him.
Patrice Evra has recently revealed in an interview that he is likely to leave the club due to ‘personal reasons’.
“It’s not true that Manchester United have not offered me a new contract. The club would like me to stay, but, for personal reasons, it won’t happen”. – The Manchester United left back said in an interview.
PSG and his former club Monaco are tracking his situation at the club and are expected to make a move for him in January. Evra will be free to discuss with any other club in the winter transfer break if United failed to tie to him down with a new contract before that. But at the moment it seems unlikely that Evra will stay beyond this season.
Manchester United are preparing for life without the French international and Leighton Baines remains their primary target to replace him. But Everton’s high asking price and Baines’ age are a stumbling block in this deal. United are eyeing a more long term solution. Luke Shaw, Fabio Coentrao and Saint Etienne’s full-back Faouzi Ghoulam have all been linked with a move to Old Trafford, but recent reports have added another new name to that list.
Manchester United are monitoring the progress of Sevilla left-back Alberto Moreno. The 21-year-old has already made 25 first team appearances for the Spanish club and made a name for himself as a part of the Euro winning Spanish U-21 squad this year. Real Madrid and Chelsea have been scouting him this season as well, but Manchester United are believed to be preparing a January bid for him.
Manchester United are expected to spend in the winter transfer window, after enduring a fairly disappointing transfer window at the start of this season. But Sevilla are unlikely to let go of him easily. Moreno has signed a new contract with the Spanish club last month, which runs till 2018, and reports suggest that they have also inserted a €30 million release clause in his contract. Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido has already claimed that Moreno won’t be sold for anything less than that price. But Manchester United are confident about negotiating a deal at a lower fee.
