Manchester United offer Adnan Januzaj a new contract as they look to retain him amongst interest from Barcelona and Manchester City.
Adnan Januzaj spectacularly announced his arrival to the big stage last weekend when he scored two goals on his first senior start against Sunderland. Those two wonderful strikes not only propelled United up the league table, but it also provided the United fans their most positive moment of what has been a fairly underwhelming season so far.
Januzaj’s latest showing has brought a lot of positivity to the club and United are not desperate to hold on to him. The 18-year-old is in the last year of his current contract and negotiations over an extension stalled after Sir Alex retired from his post. David Moyes has promoted him to the first team and is trying his best to convince him about his future at the club.
Recent reports suggest that United are willing to reopen talks regarding a new contract and have reportedly offered him a new four year deal worth £60,000-per-week. It is believed that Manchester United are worried about interests from clubs like Barcelona and Manchester City for the Belgium born winger.
Januzaj’s agent, Dirk De Vriese, confirmed last week that a lot of European clubs are interested in signing him.
“I’m not going to say which teams are interested in him, but I can tell you that there is interest from several European clubs,” De Vriese said. “The departure of Sir Alex Ferguson meant that there was a break in the negotiations, but we are back working on the calls and will see how it goes.
“Januzaj’s father has always been clear about his future as an international. He must have a starting spot somewhere and then he can decide from there.
“There have already been many emails and faxes from the respective bodies to inquire about his future. In Albania, there are even entire television shows about him that have been organised to convince him to choose their national team.” – The agent of the Manchester United youngster told the press.
It is believed that although Januzaj is willing to extend his stay at the club after being provided the opportunity to shine under David Moyes, but his father and agent are ‘influencing’ him to consider other options. The above statement released by his agent is perhaps part of his negotiating tactics to demand higher wages from Manchester United. This current situations would have brought back memories of Pogba signing for Juventus for the United fans, who have seen some talented youngsters leave the club in recent times.
Januzaj, who is eligible to play for Belgium, Albania, Turkey, Serbia and Kosova, is also being considered by the English FA to represent the nation. His future at United might also ultimately depend on the nation he chooses to represents on the international stage.
David Moyes might have spent a lot of money on signing Fellaini from Everton this summer, but this could potentially be his biggest signing in his short United career so far. And the former Everton manager is doing his best to retain him. He has added Adnan Januzaj to United’s Champions League squad as a B list player.
“If we had put him onto the ‘A’ list ]senior players], we would never have been able to class him as a youth-team player,” Moyes said. “So we needed to wait for two games to do that.” – Moyes said.
