Liverpool FC transfer target Aurélien Chedjou has welcomed interest from the Merseyside club.
For most of the fans the name Aurélien Chedjou wouldn’t ring too many bells. And no, he isn’t of the many random French youngsters who gets linked to various English clubs during every transfer window. In fact, at the age of 27, Chedjou is hardly young but is yet to become a star.
Chedjou has been a bit of a late riser. He started his senior career at French club Pau, after spending some time with the Villarreal youth academy. But Chedjou struggled to get a breakthrough into the first team, despite joining Auxerre and Rouen. That is, until Lille came calling and since then Chedjou has established himself as a first team player. He was a vital part of the squad that won the Ligue 1 title back in 2010-11 season and formed a formidable defensive partnership with Adil Rami (who is now a Valencia player). Lille managed to qualify for the Europa league this season, as they peeped Nice to the 5th spot in the league and Le Tank, as he is often called by the fans, has once again put up some fantastic displays.
Liverpool are in the market for a defender as the search for the replacement of Jamie Carragher begins in full swing. Even the future of Sebastian Coates at Anfield is in doubts, hence Brendan Rodgers’ priority right now is to strengthen his defence. The former Swansea manager is supposedly interested in signing Aurelien Chedjou from the French side. But it seems like Liverpool are not the only club who are monitoring the 27-year-old defender. Newcastle United, Galatasaray, Valencia and Porto have all been linked with a move for Chedjou.
But encouragingly for Liverpool, Chedjou has welcomed the interest of the Merseyside club and seemed highly interested in a move to the English Premier League.
“Nothing is done with any club. Yes, I want to move from Lille and get another experience of my life.” – Said Chedjou.
When the Liverpool transfer target was asked about the possibility of joining in the English club, he said – “Liverpool could be great. An enormous club with fantastic fans and the Kop to add.”
Chedjou’s current contract ends in 2015 and Lille have reportedly put a price tag of €7 million on the defender, which means Liverpool would be confident of landing him. But the Liverpool manager is said to be looking at other possible options as well.
