Agent of Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain has confirmed that the Argentine international is close to joining Arsenal FC.

Arsenal Transfer News - Gonzalo Higuain Is Close To Joining The Gunners, Confirms AgentIt now seems only a matter of ‘when’ before Arsenal and Real Madrid comes to an agreement over the transfer of Higuain. The 25-year-old’s future has been up for speculation since he stated his desire to move away from Real Madrid this summer.

Earier reports suggested that the deal to sign Gonzalo Higuain is near completion and the Argentine international was expected to arrive at the club in the next few days. He was set to be the first big name signing this season and it was believed that the 25-year-old have already agreed personal terms with the Gunners. The transfer fee involved in this deal is believed to be £22million, and it seemed like Arsenal have managed to beat competition from Juventus.

But Higuain’s father, Jorge Higuain insisted that contrary to reports the Argentine international hasn’t agreed to personal terms or signed any pre-contract with Arsenal, although he confirmed the fact that both Arsenal and Juventus have made offers for the striker but Real Madrid needs to accept it before any progress could be made.

Now his agent, Nicolas, has revealed that the Argentine international is close to joining the Gunners as he is ‘too expensive’ for Juventus.

“If Tevez joins Juve, is Higuain closer to Arsenal? I think so.

“Juventus is a great club, but Gonzalo is too expensive for them.

“Napoli are a strong team. Having said that, I cannot deny that Gonzalo is now close to Arsenal.” – Nicolas was quoted in press.

Real Madrid were initially waiting for the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti, their new manager, before officially announcing Higuain’s departure. Now that Ancelotti has been revealed at Madrid, Higuain is expected to be officially revealed as an Arsenal player in the next two days.

The 25-year-old will be a superb addition and will also send out a sign of intent to Arsenal’s rivals in the transfer market. It is an indication that the club is no longer hesitant in spending the cash when required. Higuain is still young and already has massive experience both at the International stage and in European football. He will add a new dimension to the Arsenal attack, which at times looked a bit toothless upfront towards the end.
