FC Barcelona have been urged by Lionel Messi to make a move for Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero.
The 25-year-old has been a key player for the English club since his big money transfer back in 2011. He played a big part in Manchester City’s title winning campaign and scored the memorable winning goal against on the final day against QPR. The Argentine international has been in wonderful form this season and has already scored 13 goals and provided nine assists in 14 matches so far.
Recent reports claim that Barcelona are considering a move for the former Atletico Madrid striker and Lionel Messi is reportedly keen to pair-up with his fellow countryman. Messi and Aguero have enjoyed a wonderful partnership for their national side from the youth set-up. Barcelona have shown interest in Aguero in the past, as they lined him up as the replacement for David Villa, but eventually settled with Neymar. But the Catalan club did hold talks with Aguero’s agent during that period, although a deal failed to materialize. Aguero was also close to joining Real Madrid before he signed for Manchester City.
Reports also suggest that Sergio Aguero is also keen to move back to Spain and could consider an opportunity to join the Catalan giants if the opportunity arises. El 9 Esportiu quoted an unnamed source close to Aguero saying – “He’s crazy about Barca.“
Although Barcelona are currently not in need of another forward after the arrival of Neymar, Messi has reportedly urged them to make a move for Aguero. But the Spanish club will find it hard to negotiate with Manchester City as the English club are unlikely to entertain any bid for the Argentine international whose current contract runs till 2017.
Aguero is considered to be one of the most important players in the City squad and they are unwilling to part ways with him anytime soon. Moreover, Manchester City general manager Fernando Soriano doesn’t share a good relation with Barcelona president Sandro Rosell. So from the outset this move looks highly unlikely at the moment, until Aguero pushes for a move back to Spain.
Barcelona on the other hand have more pressing concerns in strengthening their defence which is widely considered as the weak point in their squad. Gerardo Martino is more in need of a defender, than another attacker.
