We bring you all the reactions after Real Madrid’s big win over Barcelona last night along with former Real Madrid president’s views on Mourinho and why he might join PSG in the summer.

Real MadridReal Madrid pulled off one of their most memorable victories against Barcelona last night when they defeated the Catalan giants 3-1 in the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final. Three away goals meant Jose Mourinho’s side progressed to the final after winning the tie on an aggregate score of 4-2.

However, perhaps more than just the victory, it was the way they out-performed Barcelona on pitch has caught the eyes of football fans around the world. Jose Mourinho’s side made a statement yesterday and a telling one at that.

It was also a match where Cristiano Ronaldo largely overshadowed Lionel Messi as the Portuguese winger scored a wonderful brace. Another star for Real Madrid, Raphael Varane,  made it 3-0 with a powerful header in the 68th minute and although Jordi Alba pulled one back in the dying minutes of the match, it was nothing more than a consolation.

Jose Mourinho sent Iker Casillas, who is injured, for the post-match press conference and the Real Madrid captain expressed his delight at the team’s performance and what it meant for the fans. Casillas also praised Ronaldo and hoped that the club can secure his future at Madrid.

“We decided it’s a good time to bring up the captain. We realize that we will not win the title, but it’s a good time to converse publicly with the Blancos fans considering our level in the league.

“This gives us more peace for the rest of the season. Barcelona did not look as good as Madrid. The team were brilliant defensively. Cristiano Ronaldo has also been crucial.

“Real Madrid have beaten Barcelona tactically. Cristiano Ronaldo is proving its importance in the Real Madrid. He’s our most important player. He’s already demonstrated his level in other Clasicos, too.

“He will have to deal with [the contract] issue with the club, but for us it would be a joy.” – Casillas told the press.

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos was lavished praise on Ronaldo and his 19-year-old defensive partner Varane.

“For me, Cristiano is the best in the world, and has always shown up in these types of games.

“We have done very well because against Barcelona it is complicated to find space. The result is deserved.

“Young people like Varane must be given opportunities to play, and tonight, we have seen the positives [of this approach].” Ramos said.

Jordi Roura, the stand-in coach for Barcelona presently, accepted Madrid’s superiority in the match. But he is confident that his players can recover from this defeat ahead of the all-important clash against AC Milan.

“In the first round and in the Supercopa, the two teams were matched. They were decided by details. [But tonight, Madrid] were far superior and we lacked effectiveness. In football you cannot always control things; it is a game of mistakes. Madrid are one of the best teams around on the break. This is a thing that we knew, and we tried to control it but we lacked wisdom. That makes Madrid a great team.

“In La Liga, we have made a great effort. The first half [of the season] was the best ever. I do not think that this will affect us; perhaps this will give us peace of mind, because we have the league to focus on. But we do not have it won, so we must keep fighting.

“The attitude of my players was commendable. We will overcome this bump. I have confidence in my team, and we will be helped by our great fans, I’m sure.

“We’ve lost our Copa del Rey title, but our league situation is very favorable. It is essential for us. We also have an important match against AC Milan [to prepare for]. The Champions League and the league are major challenges that we’ll fight for.

“When you are eliminated from a competition, players are sad, but still very competitive. We must recover.” – Roura was quoted in press.

Jose Mourinho Linked With A Move To PSG

Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has revealed that Jose Mourinho could be on his way to France to take up the managerial job at cash-rich PSG next season. Calderon also launched a scathing attack on the Portuguese manager, pointing out his behavior on and off the pitch. The 61-year-old also revealed that some of the Spanish players in the squad are unhappy with Mourinho and his ‘attitude’.

“Real Madrid have a problem with Jose Mourinho’s attitude. We are not used to a coach who complains about referees, UEFA and injuries. It’s something I don’t like. We are used to talking about what’s happening on the field.

“It seems he’s going to leave and it looks like he’s off to Paris Saint-Germain. He says he’s going to stay but I don’t think so. Things have gone too far and Real Madrid are not willing to accept any more of his behavior.

“Some of the players, mainly the Spanish stars, are not happy with this sort of behavior. They are not used to it. They don’t like the attitude.”

“I have always said it is the president’s fault. Jose Mourinho isn’t cheating anyone. He hasn’t changed how he is, he’s always behaved like that. Wherever he’s been he’s acted in the same way. When Perez signed him he knew what he was getting.

“When I signed Cristiano Ronaldo I was dealing with Jorge Mendes, who is an agent for them both, and he kept talking to me about the prospect of signing Mourinho. I thought the same then as I do now, in the history of Real Madrid we’ve never seen a coach act like Mourinho does.” – Calderon told Talksports.

The former president, when asked about rumours linking Real Madrid with a move for Gareth Bale in the summer, seemed confident that the Spanish clubs will able to meet Tottenham’s transfer fee demands.

“I think he is a fantastic player. He is one of those players you would always like to have in your team.

“It’s true we have spent a lot of money in the last three or four years but I think we are in a position to pay the money they are going to ask for.

“There is always a limit but Real Madrid is in a very healthy situation, economically speaking, so it would be in the position to sign him.

“I’m sure it will be a high amount of money because he is a fantastic player. A lot of clubs would like to have him.” – Calderon explained.
