After an exciting opening Match Day action I-league now moves into Round 2. In Round 2 Dempo, Churchill Brothers will look to bounce back while Pune FC and Shillong Lajong will look to capitalize on their good start. Youngster such as Myron Fernandes, Nikhil Kadam would like to solidify their place in the team and Ten Action might show live matches on television.
Mumbai FC could face the Vengeance of the Golden Eagles
Dempo Sports Club had a nightmare start on the opening day against Shillong Lajong at home. The 5 time Champions were stunned by 3-0 loss at the hands of the unfancied opponents as the marquee signings of Dempo failed to make an impact. The star studded line up was made to realize that there will not be any easy games in the I-League 2013/14.
Dempo now travel to Pune to face Mumbai FC at Balewadi Sports Complex. It will be interesting to see how the wounded Golden Eagles react. Dempo have a reputation of being slow starter. They faced a similar defeat against Air India two seasons back when they got thrashed 4-1. But instead of losing the confidence the club came back strong and went on to win I-League in the same year.
Dempo SC would be raring to go up against Mumbai FC and who knows, Mumbai FC could face the vengeance of wounded Golden Eagles.
Can Shillong Can Capitalize on Their Dream Start?
Minnows Shillong Lajong would have never imagined better start than this. The North East Side surprised fans with 3-0 victory over I-League Giants Dempo Sports Club.
Trinandian International Glen Cornell was the star of the match. The Veteran striker utilized his experience and punished Dempo for even a minute mistake. Glen’s finishing was top class and if it was not him the result could have been different. The striker will be high on his confidence after such exciting debut in I-League.
The inexperience in Shillong Lajong will be now get tested against Pune FC. After defeating a Dempo now it will be interesting if they could do same to Pune FC.
Just like Shillong Lajong, Pune FC will be going into this match after a comfortable 3-1 Victory over Mohhamadan Sporting. The Team looked Solid and all the foreigners in the team performed exceptionally well. Raul Fabiani will be one key figure who would be missing from the lineup due to suspension.
Can Churchill Brothers Bounce Back?
Defending Champions Churchill Brothers is in a bit of turmoil as they are finding it difficult to get the right combination of their foreign players. Portuguese Defender Euripedes Amoreinha failed to live up to the expectation of the owners and was forced to come off due to poor performance. Hugo Machedo’s injury in the 1st match added more misery to the defending champions.
The Red Machines were grounded against Salgaocar FC when they failed to give a good account of themselves. The club would like to bounce back quickly and in style against Mohun Bagan.
Mohun Bagan has problems of their own, their star striker Nigerian Odafa Okoli is not 100% fit. In the absence of the striker they may find it hard to trouble the backline of their rivals. In the opening game they were put under immense pressure by the newcomers Bangalore FC.
Churchill Brothers will be heavily depended upon their midfield maestro Lenny Rodriques. The midfielder will have to come up with something spectacular against Mohun Bagan. He will have to dictate the terms in the middle of the park and provide much needed services to his strikers.
With two teams which finding hard to find their right combination we might have the interesting game on our hands.
Ten Action Live Telecast
AIFF and their Marketing Partners IMG-R came under heavy criticism from the fans when they failed to get the live telecast of the opening week of the league. IMG-R has been under immense criticism from the fans for their negligence towards Indian Football and I-League. The Marketing Partners of AIFF have failed to satisfy the fans since they came up on the board.
Ten Action has promised to provide live telecast for 75 matches but so far there has been very little news regarding the telecast of round 2. The quality of telecast also has been below par and it will be interesting to see the quality of broadcast if we get to see round 2 on television. Fans around the country would be eager to see if they get live telecast of the matches of round 2 or not.
Youngsters To Watch Out in Round 2
Nikhil Kadam has been a live wire for Pune FC in the opening match against Mohammedan Sporting. The youngster was hard to control and could have scored a goal. His rasping shot hit the woodwork before Raul Fabiani scored off the rebound.
Alesh Sawant of Chruchill Brothers Sports club is another youngster who made his debut on the opening match day. The 18 year old winger is set piece specialist for his club and will be a key figure in the round 2 match against Mohun Bagan, especially due to the weakness of Bagan on flanks. The winger is touted to be the next big thing in Indian football and he will look dish out a good performance against the Mariners.
Dempo Sports Club striker Myron Fernandes has been in great form in the Goa Pro League. The striker was not part of a Shillong Lajong match and is expected to get game-time in round 2 against Mumbai FC. Known for his speed and accuracy, the striker will come handy against slow players of Mumbai FC and could be match winner for Dempo.
