Chelsea FC defender David Luiz is a transfer target for cash-rich French club PSG.
The 26-year-old is currently preparing to participate in the Confederations Cup for the host nation Brazil. But his immediate future at Stamford Bridge is up for speculations. Reports suggest that new Chelsea Manager is prepared to sell Luiz as looks to reshape the team for next season.
David Luiz has improved a lot as a footballer over the past six months – specially under interim manager Rafa Benitez – when perhaps for the first time he showed some consistency along with his undoubted talent. But Mourinho is unsure about his place in the team. The Portuguese manager has always built his team around strong defences and there are a lot of questions marks on Luiz’s defensive abilities – despite his improvement. He is certainly not a Mourinho-type defender, who prefers steel and grit over silk and unpredictability. The former Real Madrid manager doesn’t see Luiz as a center-back in his side and is also unsure about his role in the midfield – where he was deployed by Rafa Benitez. So Chelsea is reportedly willing to listen to offers for Luiz along with a few other players.
The Brazilian was initially linked with Barcelona, who see him as an option if they fail to land their primary target Thiago Silva this summer. But now it seems PSG are ready to step in with a bid for the 26-year-old defender and pair him with his compatriot Thiago Silva at the back. The French side are willing to pay £25million, who was brought for the same fee from Benfica two years back.
PSG have a predicament of their own as Thiago Silva is also unsure about his future at the club. The 28-year-old has recently said that he will consult Zlatan Ibrahimovic before committing his future to the club. The Brazilian has stated that he is unsettled by the fact that Carlo Ancelotti’s future at the club up for speculation as well, the Italian manager was his prime reason to sign for the club in the first place. So Ancelotti’s departure to Real Madrid could possibly trigger Silva’s exit, along with few other big names. It is perhaps with that in the French club have stepped up their interest in David Luiz. The Brazilian’s performances in the Confederations cup could also decide his long-term future at Stamford Bridge.
