Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed that Chelsea FC have inquired about striker Edinson Cavani.
Edinson Cavani has been a wanted man for past two seasons. The Uruguayan international has been on a wonderful goal scoring streak, ever since he joined Napoli from Palermo back in 2010. The 26-year-old has scored 106 goals in the his last three seasons for the Italian club and has undoubtedly been among the top five strikers in Europe during this period. Manchester City, PSG, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Chelsea – Nearly all the big clubs in Europe have been linked with him in the recent past.
The Striker has recently stated that although he is happy at Napoli, who finished second in the Serie A last season and will participate in the Champions League once again, he will consider ‘important’ offers. Now it seems like that ‘important’ offer is set to arrive from Chelsea. Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed that the London club are interested in him and that he is expecting a call from them in ‘a few hours’.
“The budget for the transfer market will be based in relation to the Financial Fair Play rules.
“If Cavani is sold then I’ll reinvest all of the €63million (£53.5m) of his release clause.
“There is interest from Chelsea in Cavani, they’ll call me in the next few hours.
“I’ll be delighted if he stays, but if he leaves then he will be adequately replaced.” – De Laurentiis told Radio Marte.
It will be interesting to see if Chelsea meet the release clause in Cavani’s contract, although they are perhaps one of the very few clubs who can. The London club have also been linked with Jovetic and Hulk recently, after they reportedly missed out on Falcao due to Atletico Madrid’s high demands. Cavani though is certainly a better option than Hulk at this moment, and Jovetic is a completely different sort of forward.
According to reports by Mediaset (Italian), Chelsea have already agreed a deal of €58m with Napoli for the Uruguayan international – these reports are however, yet to be confirmed. Although the 26-year-old might be a bit over-priced, it will be a big statement of intent from Chelsea and Jose Mourinho to their Premier League rivals. This promises to be an exciting summer for the Chelsea fans.
A news completely to verify. So Chelsea fans don’t get excited too early. According to Mediaset, Chelsea and Napoli agreed 58m€ for Cavani
