Blackburn Rovers Sack Michael Appleton

Blacburn Rovers have relieved Michael Appleton from his managerial duties after just 15 games in the charge of the Championship club.

Blackburn RoversIndian poultry giants Venky’s could perhaps write a book on ‘how not to run a club’. Here is a club which competed in UEFA Cup (back in 2007-08) not so long ago are now facing relegation battle in the Championship currently. It has been a rapid fall for Blackburn under their owners and now the club sacked their third manager this season.

After Steve Kean left the club at the start of the season, Henning Berg was appointed as the new manager. The former Blackburn defender was then sacked after just 57 days of his appointment and now Michael Appleton, who was Henning Berg’s replacement, has been sacked after just 67 days of his appointment.

The club has released a statement on their website stating the removal of Appleton from his post along with assistant manager Ashley Westwood, first team coach Darren Moore and head of senior recruitment Luke Dowling.

“Blackburn Rovers FC can confirm that Michael Appleton has been relieved of his duties as manager along with assistant manager Ashley Westwood, first team coach Darren Moore and head of senior recruitment Luke Dowling.” – read a statement on the official website of Blackburn Rovers.

Blackburn Rovers have lost five and drawn three of their last eight matches in all competitions and currently lie in 18th spot in the league table – just four points above the relegation zone. This decision comes on the back of their FA cup exit at the hands of Millwall after Appleton was heavily criticized for his team selection in which he left out veteran midfielder Danny Murphy from the squad.

Reserve team coach, Gary Bowyer, has been put in charge of the senior team as the Lancashire club looks for their 5th manager under the ownership of Venky’s. This decision has caused an outrage on twitter with journalists and former players criticizing the owner for ‘Corporate Hooliganism’. Here are some of the reactions -
