Brandon Fernandes

Fernandes started his footballing career at very young age of eight but few expected him to reach so far in his career. Having started playing football with Velsao Pale Sports club and then moving on to the Goa United Football Academy, Brandon showed encouraging signs right from the start.

His exploits at the academy level were duly rewarded and he soon found himself at one of the reputed clubs in Goa, Salgoacar FC. His performances with Salgaocar FC age group teams did not go unnoticed and he was called up to represent India junior team and after brilliant performances his first few matches, he cemented his place and became a regular with the age-group teams.

The turning point in his career came when he traveled with his club Salgaocar FC to Manchester to play in reputed tournament organized by Manchester United. The midfielder grabbed much attention with his impressive skills and made it in the list of most promising youngsters.

Taking note of his splendid performances, ASD Cape Town came calling and Brandon was offered a contract to join the Academy. He become the first Asian player to join ASD. Fernandes grabbed it both hands and since then he has been with the academy and his stint with the academy has nurtured him into a quality player. He has been linked to a number of European clubs in recent time.

Fans of Brandon Fernandes want to see him don the senior team jersey very soon. Brandon certainly has made a big stride in his career at a very young age and he has a bright future ahead. With the national team going through a transitional phase and no major tournament lined up in the next couple of years, the time is right for chief coach Wim Koevermans to give the youngster a look in .

Myron Mendes

Position: Defender

Date of Birth: 16/04/1996

International Caps: India U13, U14, U15, U16, U17

Clubs represented: Salgaocar FC, ASD Cape Town

Salgaocar FC has been praised for their contribution in youth development. The Goan Greens have been nurturing the young talents in the state of Goa for quite some time now. Their extensive scouting and training of players at a young age, which is quite rare in India,  is the USP of Salgaocar FC.

Brandon Fernandes was the first player from the Salgaocar youth system who made a name for himself at the international level . The wonderkid was the first player from Asia to be selected by prestigious Cape United Soccer School of excellence. The African Academy was so impressed with the midfielder that they sent their scouts to look for more  talent in the Salgaocar youth system and they were not disappointed. India International Myron Mendes was their next scalp.

The Right Back from Goa impressed scouts with his exploits both with the junior International team and Salgaocar FC youth teams in the age groups league. The full back had even wowed scouts in USA during his stay in IMG Academy. He could have joined the academy in USA just like his national teammate Uttam Rai but decided to return back to Goa and has now followed Brandon Fernandes to ASD. Myron infact was one of the key players of the India U-16 team that played in the AFC U-16 championship.

Like any other kid in India, Myron Mendes had a keen interest in Cricket but his parent’s love towards the beautiful game meant that he gave up cricket in favor of football – a rare thing indeed in the cricket loving nation.

Myron, known to be a confident player, dismissed all talks of being intimidated by the physical and tall African players before he left.  The full back till now has seemed really confident in matching physically stronger African players in South Africa.

Mendes has been compared with senior International Syed Rahim Nabi. Both the full back have very good work rate and give their best on the field. Just like Syed Rahim Nabi, Myron Mendes is known to have offensive instincts and he has scored on a number of occasions for the national team. He is also known to have calm nerves and hence was entrusted with the task of taking spot-kicks for his team. His stoppage time free kick against China in AFC U-16 championship helped the team salvage a draw.

Myron Mendes has surely matured at a young age and has also captained the U-16 national team on multiple occasions . His calm and his confidence in his abilites to perform against stronger oppositions surely make him a player to watch out for in times to come. He is surely one player who the fans expect to serve the nation for a long time

Both ASD Cape town starlets have a lot of potential to play in European Leagues. Brandon has already started to attract a few clubs and it will be interesting to see how Myron Mendes lives up to the expectation.
