According to reports, Hulk is set to complete his move to big spenders Monaco.
The 26-year-old forward, who was part of the triumphant Brazilian squad in the Confederations Cup, has been in the news this summer following speculations regarding his future at Zenit. After his much talked about move from Porto to the Russian club, Hulk has endured a fairly disappointing season both on and off the field. The forward has failed to make the impact that fans were expecting him to, after the mammoth transfer fee that Zenit paid for his service. Apparently even his teammates weren’t too impressed with his high wage – Igor Denisov and Kerzhakov publicly criticized the club for paying over the top to the Brazilian.
Despite such big names in the team, Zenit failed to win the league. The former Porto man has failed to settle down in Russia after facing criticism from fans (some of which were racist in nature) and was apparently looking for a move back to other top leagues in Europe.
Chelsea, who were close to signing the Brazilian before he joined Zenit, were also linked with a move for him this summer, but it seems that Monaco are now the front-runners. Reports from France suggest that Hulk has agreed terms with the cash-rich French club and Monaco are set to pay a whopping €60 million to Zenit as the transfer fee, although Hulk’s agent has refused to disclose any details about this deal.
“It is up to the club to communicate this information,” Teodoro Fonseca told RMC.
Monaco have already made some big name signings this summer. The likes of Falcao, Toulalan, Abidal and Moutinho have already arrived at Stade Louis II. But €60 million for a forward who scored seven goals in the league last season seems inexpedient. It almost seems like a response to PSG’s recent spending on Edinson Cavani. But this is certain to spice up the Ligue 1 next season and it certainly won’t be a one horse race.
