Arsene Wenger is ready to do battle with Chelsea and Jose Mourinho over exciting French prospect Kurt Zouma: according to a report in British newspaper Mirror.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is in pole position to sign Saint Etienne and France Under-21 defender Zouma and wants to sign him in coming winter break. However, Arsenal counterpart Arsene Wenger is also keen on the £12million-rated centre-half after receiving strong recommendations from his scout Gilles Grimandi.
Mirror has reported that Wenger is having continuous discussions over possible January targets with his staff this week and Grimandi has reportedly advised the Premier League Leaders to make a move for Zouma.
Wenger too is taking a keen interest and Zouma is also ready to switch to the Premier League, but Chelsea are sure they can fend off Arsenal’s interest.
Chelsea are in the market for defender as David Luiz continue to attract strong interest Barcelona and it would very difficult for the player to ignore one of the most glamorous sides of world football.
Arsenal are looking to strengthen their defense, even if adding a striker remains a priority. Arsene Wenger is fully aware that it will be very difficult to keep Belgium international Thomas Vermaelen next summer if he is not playing regularly.
Arsenal also have a contract stalemate with right-back Bacary Sagna, who is set to leave on a Bosman-style free transfer at the end of the season.
