Arsene Wenger Believes Home Form Is The Key To Qualify From The Group

Arsenal FC will face Napoli at the Emirates tonight, in what is undoubtedly the most anticipated clash of this round. Both these teams have started their domestic campaign in brilliant form. Arsenal are currently the League leaders in England, while Napoli are still unbeaten in Serie A and are second in the points table.

In fact all the four teams in the group have shown title winning credentials so far in their respective leagues. Dortmund currently leads the Bundesliga points table, while Marseille are just one point behind Ligue 1 leaders Monaco.

Arsene Wenger is aware of the quality that these sides in Group F possess and believes that his sides’ home form, after starting their campaign with an away victory against Marseille, will be the key in qualifying from this group.

“We are in a tough group, if you look at the teams – Marseille, Dortmund, Napoli and us – they are all at the top of their league in big football countries. For us it’s vital to continue our run, but you know as well that the importance of a home game will be decisive in a group of this quality.

“Our home form will be important because we have taken three points away from home [beating Olympique de Marseille on matchday one]. We know that away from home we have good strengths as well, so I believe that our home form against all the three teams will certainly make the decision.” – The Arsenal manager said.

Despite his team’s fantastic start to their campaign, Wenger remains grounded and maintains that it is important for his players to not lose their perspective. He is has also dismissed talks about winning the title after just six games.

“You believe 100% or you don’t believe. I think in our job the most important thing is to have a good balance between ambition and humility. Ambition because of course we want to win, but humility as well because we know we have only played six games so to speak today about the title is ridiculous. But what we have done is what we want to do – continue to have the best ambition, but I think the team has a good humility and we are conscious that we want to improve.

“I wouldn’t like to be mathematical, but they say on average 10.2 points qualifies you. How we will make the 0.2 is a mystery, but that’s what is generally needed. That’s why I say the home games are important. Having won away from home if we win our home games, we will be there.” – Wenger added.

Arsenal are well aware of Napoli’s threat after facing them in the Emirates Cup in the preseason tournament. The Italian side have a lethal attack, one that can score past most defence in Europe. It is imperial for the Gunners to get a positive result in this match as it can have great bearings on the final standings in this group of death.
