Arsenal grabbed their 13th win of the Premier League season with a hard fought 0-1 victory over Newcastle United as Olivier Giroud scored the winner. The three points ensured Arsenal’s presence at the top of the points table, but the Gunners had to work hard for this win. Arsenal’s attack looked out of sort for most of the game and lacked it’s usual cutting edge. The Gunners were missing two of their most influential players this season as Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil were left out due to fitness concerns. Ozil was a somewhat surprise exclusion and later it was revealed that the German international was unavailable due to a shoulder injury.

Ozil, who was Arsenal’s record summer signing, has already made a big impact since his arrival and has scored four goals and provided seven assists in the league so far. Arsene Wenger insists that Ozil should be back within a week, which means he could possibly be fit for their important FA Cup fixture against Tottenham Hotspur on 4th of January.

“It is an inflamed shoulder. It should be maybe one more week, maybe less, I don’t know, but not a long time.” – The Arsenal manager said.

The Frenchman also distanced himself from reports linking the London club with a renewed move for Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye in the January transfer window. Wenger insisted that Arsenal already have enough depth in the midfield and won’t need to strengthen this department of the squad.

“We don’t look for midfielders because today, we had no Ozil, no Ramsey, who stayed at home, and we had still three good midfielders and had still [Mikel] Arteta on the bench, so there is no real need in there.” – Wenger added.
