Agent of Romanian striker Ciprian Marica has revealed that Arsenal are close to signing him.
A summer that lingered with frustration ended in ecstasy for the Arsenal fans as Arsene Wenger pulled off one of the biggest signing of the transfer window – Mesut Özil – on a record breaking £42.5m deal. But after all the euphoria about the arrival of the German international settled in, it was apparent that Arsenal lacked numbers upfront. Arsene Wenger was left fuming as Chelsea decided to pull the plug of the Demba Ba deal in the last minutes of the deadline day and now the Gunners will have to rely on Bendtner, Sanogo or Podolski upfront if Giroud misses any games.
Recent reports suggested that the Gunners were looking to sign Romanian striker Ciprian Marica as a back-up for Giroud. His agent loan Becali disclosed in an interview that by next week he could become an Arsenal player.
“Marica is a really great striker who has already got experience in western European football and so it’s natural that big clubs are eyeing his career,
“He’s close to joining Arsenal, but we have to wait for the next week.” – Becali said.
Marica, who started his career at Dinamo Bucharest, has played for clubs like Shakhtar Donetsk, Stuttgart and most recently German club Schalke. He became a free agent after leaving Schalke this summer and has since received interests from his Lazio, Inter Milan and his former club Shakhtar. West Ham United have also been linked with the striker, but it is understood that his preferred destination is Arsenal.
Marica will be a good signing for the London club given his experience in international level. He has scored 22 goals for Romania in 63 appearances since making his debut back in 2003. His recent goal came in the Romania’s 1-0 victory over Hungary in their World Cup qualifier fixture.
