Latest reports in Spanish sports daily Marca have claimed that Gerard Deulofeu’s agent, Ginés Carvajal has asked the Barcelona management to begin talks to resolve the future of one of Spanish football’s most talented young player, as both Arsena FC and Everton are ready to sign him on a permanent basis.
Deulofeu joined Premier League side Everton on one year loan at the start of this season. His current manager, Roberto Martínez is highly impressed with the youngster and has already mentioned that he wants to keep him for next season. His playing style fits perfectly with the Liverpool based side. When asked recently about Spanish whiz-kid, Martinez said: “He has shown great things already. But for any young player, it takes time to adapt. “In the new year he will explode on the league. He has so much talent.”
Deulofeu joined the famed youth academy of Barcelona “La Masia” in 2003 at the tender age of nine and his encouraging displays for the junior side helped him to get selected for the senior team of Blaugrana in 2011. He was not able to earn a regular starting spot in the Barcelona side though, because of abundance of talent as he made only 6 appearances in two years.
The Everton loan move has worked in his favour it seems – both in terms of gaining valuable first team experience and getting a chance of playing in the physically demanding Premier League. The 19 year old is also the recipient of Golden Player award for his displays in UEFA Under 19 Championship.
His recent displays in the EPL have also impressed the Barcelona coaching staff it seems as they plan to take the young player back to Spain. Following his stint in England, the Catalans believe that he could become an important future player for the club.
Potential of this talented Spain under-21 international has not gone unnoticed in the Premier League as well. North London side Arsenal FC has already expressed its interest in taking Deulofeu to the Emirates Stadium. Famed for his ability to nurture young talent, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger would want to have such gifted player in his squad no doubt. But Barcelona must have learned a lesson from the sagas of Cesc Fabregas and more recently Thiago Alcantara and definitely want to keep their young talent with them only. Agent of the player, Gines Carvajal however, wants the Catalan giants to act quickly. He has asked Barcelona to inform his client where he will be playing next season by 30th January.
