Balewadi Stadium, Pune
March 12, 2013

Churchill Brothers will host Singapore giants Warriors FC at Balewadi Sports Complex, Pune in an AFC Cup encounter. Both the teams are going through a lean patch and will have great opportunity to turn the fortunes. Both teams are looking to get maximum point of this match after performing poorly in last 2 matches. Win in this match for Churchill Brother will boost their confidence going ahead in the season.

Churchill Brothers

Churchill Brothers is finding it difficult going into the second half of the season. The red machines have failed to produce impact in last few matches of the I-league. The team has been performing below par and departures of  Bilal and Akram Moghrabi have created a vacuum in the squad. The club has not been able to find replacement for these two stalwarts.

Churchill Brothers will play their home matches away from the home in Balewadi Sports Complex, Pune. The club will miss the home advantage and fans to support them. Previous AFC Cup match of the club against Indonesian club Semen Pedang wasn’t fruitful. The club failed to get a win under the belt despite enjoying major share of the possession. Mariano Dias’ boys will look to change their fortune this time around in the competition.

Churchill Brothers have not been really able to perform well in later half of I-League as well as AFC Cup. The club will also be missing the services of the influential midfielder and captain Beto. The Brazilian has picked up injury in their last match against local rivals Salgaocar FC.

Sunil Chetri

The club will be heavily depended on the India International Sunil Chetri to provide the fire power in front of the goal. The striker has not been to at his best since signing in winter. Sunil has not performed well and this is other major worry for the Mariano Dias going into this match. The club will also depend on the Gabonese Striker Henry Antchouet, who is having a quiet season comparing the standard he have set for himself.

The midfield of Goan club have proved inadequate in absence of Beto. The likes of Lenny Rodrigues, Steven Dias, Tomba Singh have to utilize their experience to put some pressure on the rivals. Bikramjit Singh has been in good form and scored in the previous encounter of the AFC Cup. He will look to continue his impressive run of the form.

Defence has been fragile since the departure of the Bilal. Senegalese Lamine Tamba has failed to fill the shoes of the Lebanese centre half till now. The team has conceded some soft goals and the likes of Denzil Franco will have to perform well since the national team coach will be watching his performance. Ravanan have shown lot of promise and performed exceptionally well in this season. He will have to marshal his defence to keep rival strikers at bay.

Probable Lineup (4-4-2) : Nandy, Franco, Raju, Ravanan, Tomba,  Bikramjit, Bilal, Steven Dias, Sunil Chetri, Henry

Warriors FC

Warriors FC, previously known as Singapore Armed Forces Football Club, have not been to their best of form. The Warriors may face lot of difficulties going into the match against the Churchill Brothers in Pune. The club has been in poor form in both S-League as well as AFC cup. They have lost both of their previous matches in the AFC Cup against Kitchee FC and Semen Pedang.

Warriors FC once were considered giants in the Singapore Football when they made lot of noise qualifying in the group stage of the Asian Champions League in past. The club has failed to repeat its heroics since then. Coached by V. Selwaraj, they will look to perform well and collect a point, if not three, in the upcoming match against Churchill Brothers.

The club will look up to Bosnian striker Mislav Korgian who has been their main players since joining. The former Bosnia and Herzegovina U-21 striker will look to put some pressure on the Churchill brother defence. The striker have not scored single goal in the AFC cup this year. He will have support from Sufian Anuar upfront. The Singapore international will look to perform well and book his place in the Singapore international team.

The midfield of the Warriors will be having Japanese flavour. The club has struggledl when it comes to creating chances and lost heavily against Kitchee and Semen Pedang because of the lack of creativity in midfield. The club will have Tatsuro Inui in midfield who has been a lone positive in the midfield for the Warriors, scoring in both matches they played in AFC Cup. Other midfielder in the team likes of Shimpie Sakurada and Kazuyuki Toda have to support Inui in the match.

Daniel Bennett

Their defence has been under criticism, the club has leaked many goals. Croation wing back Marin Vedosevic  has been impressive so far  going upfront but he need help his team in defence and close down the rival crosses.

Probable Lineup (4-3-3): Hasan Bin Abdullah, Syaifull Iskandar, Abdil Qayyam, Daniel Bennett, Shimpie Sakurada, Tatsuro Inui, Kazayuki Toda, Misav Korgia, Sufian Anuar, Shi Jiayi.

Players To Watch Out For.

Sunil Chetri ( Churchill Brother)

The Indian International striker will be leading his side going into this match in absence of the talismanic midfielder Beto. The striker has to take more responsibility to help his team secure all 3 points on offer.

Denial Bennett (Warriors FC)

The 35 year old centre half has been under criticism lately and will have a big task on his hands. Warriors FC have conceded 7 goals in last 2 AFC Cup matches and Daniel will have to perform exceptionally well to stop this trend.

Churchill Brother 1- 1 Warriors FC

Both the team is going into this match with bad form behind them. This match will be do or die for both the team to keep their hopes alive in the competition. The Churchill Brothers strength has been their attack and they have to stick to their strength and score some goals.
