Liverpool FC are interested in signing Brazilian striker Leandro Damiao. We look at what he qualities he would add to the squad.

Liverpool Interested In Brazilian Striker Leandro DamiaoLiverpool are now linked with the man Tottenham seem to have set eyes on, for what seems like almost an eternity. Leandro Damião is a player whose acquisition would give Liverpool a very big advantage and one who seems entirely worth his price tag.

Let’s talk about the player first, before moving along to how he could benefit the Reds.

A player with a commanding stature of 6ft 1 inches, Leandro utilizes his big physical presence very well. He makes full use of his body and is comfortable in taking down long passes on his chest, somewhat similar to ex-Chelsea striker, Didier Drogba

Leandro uses his quickness to get on the end of crosses. When inside the box he is a calm finisher.  He is able to head the ball well and can finish decently with either feet. Stats can quickly illustrate all the praise he has garnered. He has scored 89 goals in 149 games, which proves just how lethal a finisher he is. Leandro is best positioned as a primary striker. He is a complete forward and needs the freedom up front to utilize his potential.

Leandro has exceptional skills on the ball and can utilize his fantastic dribbling skills to move past players and cut open even the most rigid of defences. Damião is a master of a dribble named “lambreta” . His size and the uncanny dribbling ability he possesses despite of it, along with his style of play makes several of his audience draw comparisons to PSG striker Zlatan Ibrahimović.

He has played for Internacional since 2009. Fans of the club take him as the successor of Alexandre Pato, who was quickly roped in by AC Milan when he started playing professionally. The Brazilian has played 6 games for Internacional this season, and has already scored twice and with time still left in the transfer window, there are fears in Merseyside that star man Suarez could still join Arsenal. The public courtship of Wenger and Suarez leaves Liverpool management and fans worried that a new bid close to £50million could see Arsenal snatch Liverpool’s prized possession.

Liverpool had hence focused their attention of Anzhi player Willian, targeting him as the marquee signing of the summer. But Tottenham and Manchester United are both attempting to takeover Liverpool’s move for top target Willian. This means that the Reds have to still ensure that they are not left short of attacking options.

Brendan Rodgers has large funds available for a marquee signing before the transfer window closes and reports suggest that Leandro could be the player Rodgers gets to add quality and depth to the squad after having missed out on Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who chose Borussia Dortmund, and Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa.

Damião has long been pursued by Spurs, but they found it difficult to negotiate a deal. Southampton too wanted the striker, but the club was rejected by the player. Damião wants to move to Europe and he has the quality that can take the Reds’ forward line to the next level. Even if Suarez stays, he needs help up front. That is where Damião comes in. He can add depth and quality to a decent Liverpool squad and can help the reds realize that Champions League berth the club has been craving for, in a long time.

Hence, Liverpool should go all out and rope in the Brazilian who is good enough to lead a side alone but will do even more wondrous things with the Reds if he has support in the attack (in the form of Sturridge, Aspas and Suarez, provided the Uruguayan stays)and has a playmaker like Coutinho supplying him.
