Milan close in on former Barca striker
Milan’s lack of potency in attack was evident over the weekend and Galliani has now turned to Bojan to help out with the goal scoring. Reports suggest that the 22-year-old will move to the San Siro on a season long loan, after which he will return to Spain.
THT Verdict: Almost done. Following Milan’s disastrous start to their league campaign, Max Allegri is keen to add a couple of new faces to the roster. With the arrival of Mattia Destro in the summer, Bojan’s chances of regular first team football at Roma dropped drastically. Since this will be a loan deal, Milan’s precarious financial situation shouldn’t be hampered, making the deal seem all the more possible. Also, the breakdown of talks between Milan, Real Madrid and Kaka means that the club is most serious with the Bojan offer.
Tottenham’s bid for Damiao rejected
Internacional vice-president, Luciano Davi, stated that the bid made by Tottenham does not match the Brazilian club’s valuation of the striker. With Moussa Dembele now on Tottenham’s radar, Damiao seems set to stay in Brazil.
THT Verdict: This saga seems to be done and dusted. Following the sale of Luka Modric, it was obvious that Tottenham were going to go on a transfer surge, but their first target seems to have let them down. Willian and Dembele seem far more likely signings at White Hart Lane, while Damiao’s future at Internacional seems somewhat stable for now.
Arsenal after Newcastle’s Yohan Cabaye
The English media is suggesting that Arsenal are lining up a bid of around €18.8m to pry the Frenchman away from St. James’ Park. With the departure of Alex Song, Arsene Wenger has been on the search for the perfect replacement in midfield.
THT Verdict: Very likely. Arsene Wenger recently stated that they were looking to add a couple of new faces before the transfer window closed, but ruled out the possibility of signing Cheick Tiote. Another of Arsenal’s targets, Yann M’Vila, also seems to stay put in France, leaving Cabaye as their most likely option to replace Alex Song. With the sale of Robin Van Persie, funds should not be too much of an issue for the London based club either.
Zenit show interest in Papadopoulos
Zenit have been very eager to sign Schalke defender, Kyriakos Papadopoulos and are rumoured to have made a bid of around €18.8m for his services. Schalke sporting director Horst Heldt even confirmed this offer in an interview with kicker.de.
THT Verdict: This is a 50-50 deal. Schalke will be very keen to hold onto the budding young defender as they are to compete on three fronts this season. Also, replacing someone of this caliber will be a mammoth task for the Royal Blues. Then again, offers of this amount for a 20-year-old are hard to come by and the club will be looking to cash in on this. A difficult decision lies ahead of Schalke’s authorities.
Liverpool looking to steal Sturridge
Liverpool’s new manager Brendan Rodgers is keen to add Daniel Sturridge to his side in an attempt to bolster their attack. A bid of around €12.5m is to be placed before Chelsea before the transfer window closes on Friday.
THT Verdict: Seems likely. Sturridge’s frustration at Stamford Bridge is no secret and the Englishman is keen to move to a club where he will have more opportunities to start. Liverpool’s bid also seems a fairly attractive one, but Chelsea’s lack of strikers might be the only hindrance to this transfer. With Fernando Torres as their first choice striker, Sturridge will play second fiddle. But these are the only two strikers that Roberto Di Matteo has at his disposal. The transfer may go through and also fuel Chelsea to pick up one final signing before Friday.
