After having conceded defeat in his attempts to sign Nuri Sahin (whom he had been following for seven years apparently), Wenger is supposedly making an attempt at signing Newcastle’s Cheik Tiote for £15m as a replacement for the now departed Alex Song.

TheHardTackle VerdictNewcastle are braced for big bids coming in for either of Cabaye or Tiote on deadline day but considering Wenger already has many options in midfield, it is unlikely that this move will go through. Besides, Tiote seems to be perfectly happy and settled at Newcastle.

Looks like Scott Sinclair is set to take his place in the City squad. With manager Mancini reportedly threatening to quit the Premier League champions if he’s not backed in the transfer window, the hierarchy at City have decided that they’ll make this signing that he very much craves.

TheHardTackle VerdictThis deal looks set to go through barring a miracle of sorts. Swansea have pretty much given up on their star after Sinclair refused a contract extension at the club. City should secure their man within a few days. With Adam Johnson going to Sunderland and Sinclair being left out of the squad against West Ham, the deal seems as good as done.

This has clearly been one of the longest running saga’s over the summer. Newcastle usually don’t do big name signings and it looked fairly straightforward until Mike Ashley started to pursue his penchant for a bargain. The player himself has stated his desire to move, but it has been complicated by Lille’s inability to sign an adequate replacement apart from their disagreement over Newcastle’s valuation of the player.

TheHardTackle VerdictThis will strain the nerve of every Newcastle loving Geordie. Likely deadline day move, what with both parties seemingly in no visible hurry. Newcastle have reportedly raised their offer however, so it might go through eventually.

Not content with having three keepers in Friedel, Cudicini and Gomes, Tottenham have been linked with a goalkeeper all of this summer. Recent reports coming in seem to suggest that they are seriously looking at young English Goalkeeper Jack Butland who is currently with Birmingham.

TheHardTackle VerdictWhile many such reports have emerged over the summer, it looks like Tottenham are more in immediate need of replacements especially in midfield and striking positions. Therefore, it looks unlikely that the deal might go through. Although with Friedel possibly in his last playing season and his back-ups knows for producing howlers, Butland can arrive as a long term prospect for Spurs.

The Luka Modric transfer move from Spurs has taken up not just one but two windows. If the drudgery of repeatedly reading about his move to Chelsea last summer wasn’t enough, then this summer has provided us with mundane stories over his desire to move to Madrid and over Daniel Levy’s desire to torture the poor guy. Just like last season, Modric has been on a protest this summer too. However, this summer might finally see the Croation rebel making his move across to Spain after Spurs seem to have finally accepted a bid from Madrid.

TheHardTackle VerdictWe are very likely to see Modric holding up a Real Madrid jersey post the summer transfer window. There is no stopping him now, not even Levy.
