Manchester United are set to make their first move for Luka Modric. Chelsea make a move for Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini. Liverpool line up Manchester City’s Adam Johnson. Juventus and Napoli fight it out for Stevan Jovetic. Barcelona turn their attention towards Chelsea defender David Luiz. All these and much more in our daily transfer round-up.
Manchester United To Make £22 Million Opening Bid To Tottenham For Modric
According to reports in the Mirror, Manchester United are set to make their first bid for Luka Modric.
THT Verdict : Last summer Luka Modric was in the midst of a prolonged transfer saga with Chelsea. The Croatian’s transfer request was rejected along with Chelsea bid to sign him. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy took a strong stance and held onto him. But this time it looks a different story all together.
Tottenham have missed out on champions league football once again, and it is unlikely tha Spurs will come in the way of a move for Modric. This time though, it is Manchester United who are knocking on the door. Sir Alex, in order to bolster his midfield, has already signed Shinji Kagawa from Borussia Dortmund, has now set his eyes on the diminutive midfielder. Tottenham are expected to reject any bid below £30 million, but Sir Alex is looking to test Spurs’ resolve by putting in a £22 million bid.
Modric, in a recent interview to Daily Mail, said “I will make a decision about my future after the European championship. I am ready to face a great challenge“. Although Harry Redknapp has come out and said that they will try and keep Modric this year also, they have already started planing for life after the Croatian. Tottenham are said to be lining up a bid for Loic Remy of Marseille as a replacement.
Modric will leave Spurs, there is no two ways about it. Whether he will move to United depends upon how much money Tottenham wants for him. United is unlikely to pay 30 million pounds for him. This deal is still in the balance.
Chelsea Lines Up Marouane Fellaini Of Everton
According to the Mirror, Chelsea are all set to continue their busy transfer window with a bid for Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini.
THT Verdict : Only few days back Everton defender Phil Jagielka expressed his concern about Fellaini leaving the club. The Englishman said “Unfortunately, with the way the club is, if somebody comes in with a £20million-plus offer, the chances are he’s going to be sold. We love Felli and we’d love him to stay. There’s not been that much transfer talk but we know the situation we’re in. We bought him for £16 million and I don’t think the club would take a loss. He’s developed in that time, especially in the last few games of the season, just behind the front one, and he’s destroyed teams.“
Marouane Fellaini has attracted interest from Real Madrid and more recently Liverpool, but now it seems Chelsea are the front-runners. The Belgium international has been immense for Everton, and his flexibility at both defensive and offensive duties in the midfield, has earned him a lot of admirers. Chelsea are set to offer £20 million for the midfielder, something that will be hard for financially troubled Everton to reject. Fellaini is seen as a long-term replacement for Frank Lampard in the team. Everton on the other hand are facing a prospect of losing Baines, Cahill and Fellaini this summer. A rough transfer period awaits David Moyes.
This deal is highly likely.
Liverpool Eyes A Move For Manchester City Winger Adam Johnson
According to reports in various media source, Liverpool are lining up a bid for City outcast Adam Johnson.
THT Verdict : Adam Johnson has found it hard to break into the first team at the Etihad Stadium, despite showing lot of promise. One might feel that the Englishman’s career has stagnated at City and he will have to find a new home to gain for first team experience. Sunderland and Liverpool are two clubs who are interested in him.
Martin O’Neil is interested in bringing in the winger and have already contacted City regarding their interest. Mancini is prepared to sell him, but for Sunderland the main problem lies in Johnson’s high wage demands. He earns close to £85,000-per-week at Manchester City, while Sunderland won’t be able to offer more than £60,000-per-week. Sunderland are even looking for a possible loan deal, with City paying some percentage of the wage.
Liverpool, on the other hand, are looking to rebuild under new manager Brendon Rodgers after a disappointing season last time around. With Dirk Kuyt leaving the club, Liverpool are in need of a winger, as Henderson hasn’t excelled in that role. Johnson would be good recruit for the Reds and according to reports they are lining up a £16m bid for the 24-year-old attacker.
Mancini would more than happily grab £16m for Johnson, whom he brought for £7m. This deal looks likely to go through.
Juventus And Napoli Fights It Out For Jovetic
According to reports in Italy, Juventus have already submitted a bid, while Napoli are considering a move as well, for the Fiorentina star man.
THT Verdict : Napoli and Juventus are set to engage in a tug-of-war for the Fiorentina hitman Stevan Jovetic. Napoli have earmarked Jovetic as a replacement for Lavezzi, who is closing in on a transfer to PSG. The Naples club are set to offer 20 million euro cash plus midfielder Insigne. Jovetic’s agent in an interview has warned Napoli that if they don’t move quickly, then next year Jovetic’s price could rise to 50 million euros!
Juventus, on the other hand, are looking for someone to carry the mantle of the departing Del Piero. Conte is said to have offered 25 million euro and Milos Krasic to Fiorentina for the attacker. Jovetic on his part, is yet to decide on his future, but Juventus seems to be a much attractive option. But at the moment, it is Napoli who have made progress in talks with Fiorentina, largely because of the good relation both the club president share.
This deal is still in the balance, with Napoli slightly more favoured than Juventus.
Barcelona Turns Their Attention Towards David Luiz Of Chelsea
According to reports in England, Barcelona have are now lining up a bid for Chelsea defender David Luiz.
THT Verdict : The Catalan giants have been linked with several defenders this summer. Reportedly, they have already failed in their bid to their primary target Thiago Silva from AC Milan. Two days back they were linked with a move or Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen. Now it seems they have turned their attention towards Chelsea center back David Luiz.
Barcelona are said to lining a massive bid of 35 million euros for Luiz. It would be very difficult to financially lure Chelsea into talks for the defender, who have been spending heavily themselves this summer. Barcelona camp believe Luiz could be a good alternative for Silva, mainly due to his ball playing capabilities.
While this news makes for a good reading, it is another improbable rumour. Highly unlikely.
