Manchester United and Arsenal chase Celtic midfielder Victor Wanwama. Manchester City looks to Gonzalo Higuain after failing to land Robin van Persie. Tottenham looks to sign Alan Dzagoev. AS Roma signs Fedrico Balzaretti. Liverpool linked with moves for Fernandes and Sakho. All these and much more in our daily transfer round-up.
Manchester United And Arsenal Stepped Up Interest In Victor Wanyama
According to the Daily Mail, both the English giants are eying a move for the Celtic midfielder.
THT Verdict : Scouts of both Manchester United and Arsenal have watched the Kenyan midfielder for the past three games, and according to reports, he has impressed them well enough for the clubs to launch a bid for him.
Manchester City, Newcastle United, QPR and Liverpool are also said to be interested in Vitor Wanyama. With the imminent departure of Nigel de Jong and injury to Barry, Roberto Mancini is said to be in the look out for a defensive midfielder and are monitoring the Celtic man closely.
Arsenal, who had earlier been linked with a move for French international Yann M’Villa, have recently pulled out of a possible move for the Frenchman. Arsene Wenger is in the market for a midfielder following Jack Wilshere’s injury worries and have been linked with a move for Sahin as well. United, similarly have been in search of a commanding midfielder, and despite the arrival of Kagawa, many feel they need a central midfielder who can also play the holding role.
Wanyama in a recent interview has said – “I’m proud that I’m the first Kenyan player to play in the UK and I’d be very happy also to be the first Kenyan to play in the Premier League. I think the Premiership is the dream of so many players, so I’d be happy to play there. There are a lot of good clubs in England. I’ve been happy here, and the fans have been brilliant with me. But it would not be a terrible thing for me if the club agree to let me go, and they get a good offer.”
A move to Arsenal looks unlikely at the moment as Sahin and Cazorla move close to the Emirates. Arsene might also be concerned about the fact that Wanyama’s arrival might halt the progress of Francis Coquelin, who has performed admirably last season whenever he was called up into the team. Manchester United seems a far more possible destination for the Kenyan though.
Manchester City Turns To Real Madrid Striker Gonzalo Higuain
According to The Mirror, Manchester City have turned their attentions towards Gonzalo Higuain after failed attempts for Robin van Persie.
THT Verdict : This could potentially be one of the biggest moves this season if this materializes. Roberto Mancini has grown increasingly frustrated about the lack of transfer activity of the reigning English champions during this window. He had even voiced his concern openly to the media. Mancini’s primary target this season has been Robin van Persie, but with the Dutchman now edging closer to a move to Juventus, it seems that City have been forced to look elsewhere.
Gonzalo Higuain was frustrated last season due to his lack of first team opportunities under Mourinho, who preferred Frenchman Karim Benzema over the Argentinean. Higuain’s future at the club has been under speculation ever since. Mourinho has recently voiced his intentions of keeping the striker at the club, emphasizing how important he is to the club’s future plans.
Higuain in a recent interview has said “The fact Mourinho talked to me and the support of my family and my teammates gave me strength to stay on. This year I’m able to start work at the beginning of the pre-season and I’m really looking forward to it. I feel strong. I’m as excited as the first day I arrived here and looking forward to winning titles. I will fight as I fought the first day I arrived. I’m headstrong and I don’t regret anything I’ve done here.“
Reports says that Manchester City are lining up a £35m bid for the forward, but before they can bring in another forward, City would look to clear some deadwood from the dressing room. Roque Santa Cruz has been put on the transfer list, while Mancini is struggling to sell Adebayor to Tottenham.
Presently the way things stand, Manchester City’s ambitions of bringing in Higuain or any new striker for that matter might well depend upon whether they are able to sell some of their existing forwards.
Tottenham Hotspur Chases Arsenal Target Alan Dzagoev
According to Russian media, Spurs are in hot pursuit of Russian starlet Alan Dzagoev.
THT Verdict : Alan Dzagoev, who was in wonderful form in the Euro, has been earlier linked with a move to Arsenal, but now it seems that Tottenham are all set to beat the Gunners to the signature of the CSKA Moscow man. According to reports, Spurs are lining up a €16m bid for the attacking midfielder, but CSKA Moscow are holding out for €26m.
Luka Modric who is seemingly on his way to Madrid, would leave behind big shoes to fill at the North London club. Real Madrid have reportedly also offered Nuri Sahin in a part-exchange deal, but AVB it seems is more interested in bringing in a player of his own choice.
Dzagoev’s father in a recent interview to the Daily Mail, has said “I don’t know if he will stay at CSKA. There are offers – from Spurs and other foreign clubs. But I tell him not to hurry. Yury Zhirkov ran off to Chelsea and sat on the bench.‘. Dzagoev on the other hand has expressed his desire to play at a ‘top’ club in a ‘top’ league in near future.
This deal is on the cards and depends directly on how quickly Luka Modric’s transfer saga is sorted out. Dzagoev will be an excellent addition to the London club.
AS Roma Completes The Signing Of Fedrico Balzaretti
AS Roma have officially confirmed the signing of Balzaretti from Palermo.
THT Verdict : Fedrico Balzaretti has seen his stock rise following his impressive performances for the Italian national side in the recently concluded Euro. Napoli were after him, while AC Milan made a late dash, but Balzaretti chose to sign for AS Roma.
Napoli President De Laurentiis has revealed that “Balzaretti did not want to come to Napoli, he could have been useful to Mazzarri because we have decided to use a group of players in the Europa League, and another group of players in Serie A. If he loves Roma more than Napoli, then he was not destined to come to this club.“
Balzaretti has already joined his new team mates at the training camp at Trigoria. The clubs official statement released today read “A.S. Roma S.p.A announce a contract with U.S. Palermo to sign Federico Balzaretti on a permanent basis for €4.5m. The player signed a three-year contract that expires on June 30 2015.“
A good signing for Roma, who have been quite active in this transfer market.
Liverpool To Bid For Manuel Fernandes And Mamodou Sakho
The Mirror reports that Liverpool are chasing Portuguese midfielder Manuel Fernandes and PSG defender Mamodou Sakho.
THT Verdict : Liverpool are reportedly making a £7m bid for the former Everton and Portsmouth midfielder Manuel Fernandes. And reports from France convey that PSG are ready to part ways with defender Mamadou Sakho, which has put Liverpool and Newcastle United on high alert.
A bid for Manuel Fernandes looks highly unlikely considering that Liverpool are already chasing Joe Allen, though Swansea are unwilling to part ways with their prized asset easily. The Besiktas midfielder is likely to leave to leave in this transfer window, but Liverpool is the unlikely destination. Having said that, Liverpool have been unpredictable in the transfer market to say the least.
Rumours about Sakho makes more sense considering the fact that Manchester City are reportedly knocking on the door to sign Daniel Agger. Though it looks highly unlikely that Agger will leave, Sakho will be great addition to the squad considering his versatility. Liverpool’s defense has had a lot of injury concerns during last season and Brendan Rodgers will look to strengthen his squad at the back.
Following the arrival of Thiago Silva, Sakho’s future has been up for speculations and this looks like deal which can possibly go through.
