Liverpool reject bids for Agger, Barcelona take a look at Song, Milan still after Kaka, and Carvalho is England bound again. All these and much more in our daily transfer round-up.
Man City ready to improve offer after Liverpool reject initial bid for Agger
Various sources in England claim that Man City’s 13 million GBP bid for Danish defender Daniel Agger has been rejected by Liverpool.

THT Verdict : Unlikely. As TheHardTackle expected, Man City did make a bid for Danish central defender Daniel Agger, but Liverpool rebuffed the offer. However the Premier League champions are expected to make another bid, this time a more improved offer closer to Liverpool’s valuation of the player. With Brendan Rodgers gearing up for the new season in the best way possible, losing his best players wouldn’t be ideal. He has made intentions clear by already rejecting the first offer, and any other offer is likely to meet the same fate, as the Reds look to hold onto their best players. So shall it be, unless an exceptional offer is received.
Barcelona interested in Arsenal stalwart Song
The Dailymail believe Barcelona are interested in Arsenal midfielder Alex Song, and would like to make them their 2nd signing this summer.
THT Verdict : Very unlikely. Barcelona do not have enough transfer funds this summer and despite monitoring numerous targets, have been unable to prioritize one single player. Alex Song is the latest on their checklist. The Catalans are well stocked in midfield and have enough players coming through the youth system. Arsenal are building a strong squad for the new season and would not like to lose their best players. Not much logic or substance in this rumour, as it’s a no-go for either party. Not happening.
Real Madrid man Carvalho back to the Premier League?
The Daily Star reports that Newcastle United are looking to sign veteran Portuguese defender Ricardo Carvalho from Real Madrid.
THT Verdict : Possible. Not very likely though, considering Mourinho’s affection for the player and the wages he would be demanding. Having said that, Carvalho has fallen down the pecking order at the Bernabeau and Madrid might look to offload the defender. Newcastle United have 4 central defenders in their ranks, but the persistent injury problems of Steven Taylor have got Alan Pardew look for back-ups.
Ricardo Carvalho is no stranger to the Premier League as he won 2 league titles at Chelsea. The only stumbling blocks are the player’s wages and demands of first team football. Playing a 34-year-old in the fastest league in the world may raise a number of eyebrows, but his experience could prove priceless. Watch this space.
Milan won’t rule out move for former star Kaka
Berlusconi has spoken to the Italian media saying that a deal for Kaka is still possible.

THT Verdict : Wait and watch. Milan have had a summer that has seen almost all it’s old and experienced war horses leave for newer pastures, and here they are getting linked with one of their former stars. Real Madrid and Mourinho have made it clear that Kaka’s future lies away from Real Madrid. With Berlusconi now stirring the transfer rumour pot with his words, it appears Milan could make a move for the Brazilian.
The transfer amount could prove to be a deal breaker. Madrid want a direct transfer, while Milan are looking to have the player on loan initially with an option for a transfer. Negotiations are expected in the coming weeks, and if Milan pull this off, could soothe their wounds after a difficult summer.
Inter ready to battle out Chelsea for Schurrle
Reports in Italy claim that Inter have joined the race for Andre Schurrle’s transfer from Bayer Leverkusen.
THT Verdict : Unlikely. Andre Schurrle has made it clear last week that he would like to move to Chelsea in the future, despite cooling interest from London. Inter have made an inquiry and would make a bid later in the week. Whether the player would like to go to Italy is unclear, but surely the asking price is beyond Inter. Don’t expect this rumour to live long.
