Valencia are hot on the heels of Aly Cissokho from Lyon; Liverpool have begun search for a winger with Walcott rumoured to topping their list; Arsenal also want Cristian Tello to be included in the Song-deal; Chelsea are rumored to be lining up a move for Marseille’s Cesar Azpilicueta. And finally, Nuri Sahin’s future could be decided this week, with Liverpool and Arsenal reported to have shown an interest in the playmaker.
Valencia Line up Cissokho Move
Valencia are reportedly interested in signing Lyon full-back Aly Cissokho, after losing Jordi Alba to Barcelona.
THT Verdict: Likely. Los Che surely have the money to splash, following the sale of Alba to Barcelona, but the only glitch in this story is that Lyon are holding out for €11M for the player, while Valencia are refusing to move beyond the €5M mark.
Cissokho has previously been a target for several English clubs including Liverpool and Newcastle United but with the interest from England now ebbing, it will be wise for Valencia to capitalize on this situation before a bidding war starts towards the end of the window.
Liverpool Eye Walcott
Now that the midfield is sorted, Brendan Rodgers is on the lookout for a winger and according to the Mirror, Liverpool have expressed an interest in signing Arsenal’s Theo Walcott.
THT Verdict: Unlikely. Walcott is surely not going to be available on the cheap. It was earlier rumoured that Inter Milan were also interested in the winger but receded on looking at the £20M price tag stamped by Arsenal.
Walcott will undoubtedly be a value-addition to the Liverpool team, which has seen a huge void in the right side of attack over the past few years. With Kuyt’s departure, who was not a genuine attacker from the right anyway, the position on the right side of midfield is begging to be filled, but Liverpool need to pinch their pockets and be ready to receive a lot of brickbats, if they are to bring in another British player at a hefty price.
Arsenal Want Tello For Song
If you are a big fan of the Metro and Arsenal, you may give some thought to the news they are reporting. The Metro claims that Arsenal have demanded Cristian Tello to be included as part of the deal for Alex Song, following an interest shown by Barcelona.
THT Verdict: Unlikely. Song was one of the key players for Arsenal last season and Wenger will be hoping for him to stay at the club and continue his good form. The arrival of new signings this season has sent out a wave of excitement among the fans.
The combination of Santi Cazorla and Alex Song could be bipolar and it is something that Arsene Wenger has surely given some thought to. Also, it is believed widely that it takes quite sometime for a player, who is not a La Masia graduate, to go and blend into the Barcelona squad, comprising primarily players from the same school.
Song plays in the central midfield position, which is highly vital to the tiki-taka style followed at the Camp Nou. Hence chances are high that he could lose some game time, at least initially if not later, if he does join Tito’s side. This is something the player will not be wishing for.
Chelsea in Azpilicueta Talks
Chelsea are looking to bolster their defence through the signing of Marseille’s Cesar Azpilicueta, according to the Guardian. Rumour floating around this deal is that Gael Kakuta could go the other way in a part-cash, part-exchange deal.
THT Verdict: Likely. Chelsea have the money to splash and they have lavishly spent it this summer on Marin, Hazard and Oscar. More importantly, with the club releasing Jose Bosingwa from his services, his position evidently needs to be filled. These reasons are strong enough to believe that the Blues will be in the market for a right-back and Azpilicueta, fits the bill perfectly.
The Spaniard has been in good form for Marseille and was also a part of the Spain squad that traveled to Ukraine-Poland for Euro 2012. The player is available on the cheap, having arrived from Osasuna for around £6M. It will be a good piece of business by Chelsea if this deal goes through.
Nuri Sahin To Decide Future This Week
As the excitement to the new season builds up, several Liverpool and Arsenal fans are also sitting in anticipation, waiting with clammy hands, as Nuri Sahin takes this week to make a decision on his future.
THT Verdict: Liverpool and Arsenal want Sahin for different reasons, although the intent is the same – to climb up the ladder. While the Reds aim to challenge for the top four, Arsenal are vying for the Premier League trophy, which has eluded them for a long time now.
Sahin has earlier spoken of his interest in Arsenal but that was in the early days of the transfer window. But now, with the Gunners emerging with serious interest, it will be hard for Liverpool to pitch the prospect of playing in the Reds shirt. However, in football the element of surprise is quite a cliche.
