Arsenal closing in on signing of Olivier Giroud
According to Daily Mail, Arsenal have reached an agreement with Ligue 1 champions Montpellier over a £12.8 Million deal that will see their 25-year-old forward play for the Gunners next season.
Arsene Wenger’s affection for the players from Ligue 1 is pretty well-known and the signings that he has made from his native country over the years have been bittersweet for Arsenal. The latest one that comes to mind is that of Marouane Chamakh who came in with a highly impressive season at Bordeaux behind him but consistently failed with the North London club. Giroud’s case is similar and we are tempted therefore not to speak too much about the French forward already. However, from Arsenal’s perspective nothing matters more at this stage than to ensure Robin van Persie stays put and for that to happen the club must show intent through quality signings and an addition of a proven forward to the roster looks to be a big step taken into this direction at the moment. Your move, Robin!
Juventus line up a £24 Million bid for Fernando Torres
Reports suggest Italian champions Juventus are interested in signing the Spanish striker on a big money transfer and they are believed to have made their offer to Chelsea.
It is no secret Juventus desperately need a classic forward and that’s essentially the only thing missing from their otherwise formidable looking squad. Juventus have spent the money in the past and are expected to do so again this summer too but Torres as of now appears to have made his mind to stay at Chelsea. Post the departure of iconic star Didier Drogba, Chelsea now heavily rely on Torres who will be their chief marksman if they fail to land Hulk from Porto. However, even if the Brazilian is signed, the Londoners do not seem to be in a mood to allow Torres to leave. He is likely to stay at least for another season in a bid to find his scoring boots. Chelsea’s reluctance to sell the forward should compel Juventus to look for their options elsewhere and they’ve already been linked with a number of top forwards across Europe. Torres to Juventus, at this stage, seems unlikely.
Inter ready to include Maicon in the deal to sign Nuri Sahin
Desperate to add quality players to their largely over-the-hill squad, the former Italian and European champions are throwing another dice in their quest to sign the Turkish midfielder from Real Madrid. Sources believe Inter now consider including the Brazilian full back in the deal.
Maicon was one of the top performers for the side that won everything there was to win under Jose Mourinho. The Special One was the biggest admirer of the right back and was initially keen on taking him along to Spain. However, two years is an eternity in football and Maicon is far from the player he used to be. On the other hand, Real Madrid are the champions of Spain now and with their ambitions only rising for the next season, adding a has-been to their squad will be the last thing on their mind. Moreover, Mourinho has made it clear in the past that Sahin is pretty much the part of foreseeable future at the club but if at all they decide to sell him, Inter will have to put in a better offer than the one that merely involves Maicon going the other way.
Chelsea interested in Huntelaar
The Dutch forward who has attracted great attention from a host of clubs after having a fantastic season with Schalke 04 is the latest option Chelsea are considering to add quality to their attacking line.
With Drogba’s departure and concerns over how whether Fernando Torres will find his regular scoring form, Chelsea certainly need a prolific poacher and Huntelaar perfectly fits the bill. Having had a highly productive season in Germany, he is a hot property in the transfer market this summer and a number of big clubs are interested in his signature. At this point, Chelsea are linked with Hulk and most definitely the Brazilian is high on their list but should a deal fail to materialize, Chelsea should be more than content if they are able to get a replacement of Huntelaar’s credentials. The chances of this deal going through look bleak for now but the prospects may seem brighter towards the end of the window.
Mathieu Flamini set to leave AC Milan
Reportedly the Frenchman is considering leaving the Italian giants after he was offered a contract with significantly reduced wages. Flamini does not want to sign a new contract and is willing to leave as a free agent.
The recurring injuries and inconsistency in performances have meant Flamini has hardly done anything worthwhile in his four year stay and it is only logical the club is offering him an extended contract with reduced wages. The player declared himself fit towards the end of the last season and with the departure of a generation of midfielders, he was touted to start more often next season but with Flamini, there’s always an element of uncertainty and given the financial conditions Milan are in, they will certainly not entertain his wage demands and happily let him leave should the two parties fail to resolve the issues. In all possibilities, he may be seen plying his trade elsewhere next season as there will be no shortage for his takers after being made available on Bosman.
