Arsenal look to sign the ‘Korean Steven Gerrard’ and are set to compete with Liverpool for Nuri Sahin. Manchester City close in on their primary weapon to conquer Europe, while Chelsea close in even further on Victor Moses. All these and much more in our transfer round-up.
Arsenal Eyes Ki Sung-Yueng
According to DailyMail, Arsenal are eyeing a move for Celtic midfielder Ki Sung-Yueng.
THT Verdict : It seems that Arsene Wenger’s spending spree this summer will continue as the Gunners look for further reinforcement to their squad. Arsenal have already landed Lukas Podolski, Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla in this transfer window.
Wenger has already been linked with Victor Wanyama and now it seems that the Frenchman has turned his attention to Wanyama’s Celtic team-mate Ki Sung-Yueng who is touted as the ‘Korean Steven Gerrard’.
Arsenal scouts have been following the Asian’s progress for a long time who has impressed them immensely with his performances last season in Scotland. Ki Sung-Yueng has also had an impressive Olympics for his national team, where he scored the winning penalty for his team against Great Britain in the quarter-final.
Neil Lennon, the Celtic manager once said “He’s a very important player to us. I rate him very highly. He can go on to be anything he wants to be. We think he is a class player and we’re glad he’s here. Ki has been very consistent over the past 18 months. He’s developing nicely into a class player. He had good presence and good composure on the ball. He has a goal or two in him and his passing range is excellent.“
DailyMail has reported that the player might be available at £9m but this deal depends on lot of other transfer activities. Future of Alex Song, and Nuri Sahin might well decide the future of Ki. Why? Read on.
Nuri Sahin To Liverpool? Tottenham? Arsenal?
Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal have all being linked with the Turkish midfielder. Where will he eventually land up?
THT Verdict: According to DailyMail, Liverpool have joined the race to sign Nuri Sahin. This comes after the news that the Reds have grown frustrated with Swansea and their high transfer fee demands for Joe Allen. Brendan Rodgers have been forced to look elsewhere as Swansea boss Michael Laudrup’s made public attempt to tout a £20m valuation for the 22-year-old.
Meanwhile, it is also reported that Real Madrid had initially offered Nuri Sahin to Tottenham in a player-plus-cash deal for Luka Modric. But Spurs are not interested in the Turkish midfielder and are holding on to Modric for anything in the region of £35m.
The Guardian however, reports that Real Madrid have now given permission to Nuri Sahin to join Arsenal. Sahin is said to prefer a loan move to Emirates over others but Wenger’s move for the midfielder might depend on whether Barcelona follows up their reported interest in Alex Song with an ‘acceptable’ bid.
As of now, Liverpool and Arsenal are equally poised in this battle, with Arsenal perhaps edging it due to the players preference to join them. Bring out your popcorn!
Manchester City After Swansea Winger Scott Sinclair
Manchester City are close to signing Scott Sinclair according to the Mirror.
THT Verdict : Mirror reports that Manchester City have agreed to pay a fee of £8m for the winger and Sinclair’s agent has already travelled to Manchester to seal the deal.
Sinclair had a wonderful season with Swansea last year and with only 10 months of his contract remaining, the former Chelsea man is looking to move to a bigger club.
But why does Manchester City need Sinclair? Well, the general belief is that Mancini wants to add a new dimension to City’s attack as he looks to conquer Europe. The Italian is in lookout for a quick and pacy wide-man and Sinclair fits the bill perfectly.
Although surprising, this deal now looks to be in the final stages of completion. Europe be afraid, be very afraid!
Manchester City And Arsenal Fight It Out For Kouyate
Cheikhou Kouyate has drawn interest from City and Arsenal according to reports in the Sun.
THT Verdict : While concerns about foreign players’ ‘unreadable’ names have been the reason of a growing concerns among the commentators in EPL, Cheikhou Kouyate is about to arrive in England.
His destination though, is still a matter of speculation with surprisingly ‘quiet-in-the-transfer-market’ Manchester City and astonishingly ‘active-in-the-transfer-market’ Arsenal linked with a move.
The Anderlecht youngster was regularly scouted by both the clubs last season as the talented youngster helped his club sweep through the domestic league. The versatile Senegalese can play both as a center back as well as a defending midfielder and has impressed with his national team in the ongoing Olympics which has caused a lot of clubs to sit up and take notice.
Tedik Bekir (his agent) has said “I have received many phone calls since the Olympics. Almost all the Premier league clubs, but also from Russian and Turkish teams. For now, nothing is concrete, but that could change later on in the window.“.
Manchester City are said to be leading the race, but Kouyate, in an interview earlier this year, said that he is perhaps not ready yet to take such a big leap – “I am not ready yet to join a club like Manchester City. I’ll probably be ready within a year or two. There is a big gap between me and the player at City at the moment, like Lescott and Kompany“.
Its is time to see whether his common sense still prevails.
Chelsea Are Closing In On Moses
BBC reports that Chelsea have held ‘high-level’ talks with Wigan regarding the transfer.
THT Verdict : Yes, they are close. If you believe English media, they have been closing in ever since the transfer window has started. So by now, they must have reached really close, which is actually, pretty close.
Moses has been looking for a way out of Wigan with Chelsea being the club interested in signing him. However, the Londoners were unwilling to meet Wigan’s £10m fee demand but now, the Latics have reportedly lowered the price tag to £8.5m. BBC reports that Wigan chairman Dave Whelan met Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay on Tuesday to hold talks regarding a possible deal.
Chelsea bargaining in the transfer market? Seems like they have taken the ‘£50m’ lesson to seriously.
