Manchester United are in the market for Joao Moutinho, Juventus’ search for a striker brings them to Suarez while Liverpool, who themselves are in need of a frontman, are reportedly looking towards Demba Ba. Meanwhile in France, PSG have completed the signing of Ezequiel Lavezzi.
Manchester United to Bid for Moutinho
Fresh reports doing the rounds are bolded with the news of the Red Devils making a move for the Portuguese midfielder Joao Moutinho. The player impressed at Euro 2012 and has long been the target for several clubs across Europe.
THT Verdict: Unlikely
While his earlier teammates at Sporting (Ronaldo and Nani) came at a much lower fee, Sir Alex has been told that he will have to shell out something in the region of 25 million pounds to land the 25 year-old. With the arrival of new signings Shinji Kagawa and Nick Powell, coupled with the return of Tom Cleverley from injury, it is unlikely that Ferguson will be splashing the Glazer funds over Moutinho. A deal can materialize only post negotiations but Porto won’t settle for fool’s gold over their star midfielder.
Juventus Move In for Suarez
After wasting an unnecessary fax to North London with a cheeky 8 million pound bid for Robin van Persie, Juventus are now said to be looking at Liverpool’s Luis Suarez to alleviate the striker woes. The Old Lady is reportedly offering a cash plus player deal for the Uruguayan’s services.
THT Verdict: Highly Unlikely
Well, Juventus defender Martin Caceres may be ready to become Luis Suarez’ roommate at Juventus too, but new boss Brendan Rodgers has other plans.
The Gaffer recently stated that Suarez is vital for Liverpool next season as he looks to build an effective and competent team around the club’s strongest players. Suarez is surely one of them. 2011/12 was a disappointing season for Suarez from a personal standpoint, and with the kind of fighting spirit that he carries, he will surely look to put that behind for a better 2012/13 rather than just jumping ship.
Dzagoev Enters Tottenham Radar
Tottenham Hotpur, with the arrival of their new manager are likely to be active in the transfer market from now on. Latest reports are linking the North London side to CSKA Moscow midfielder Alan Dzagoev. The 22 year-old Russian midfielder was one of the top players in the recently concluded Euro tournament and has had his stock rise up after scoring three goals for country along with some solid performances along the way.
THT Verdict: Likely
While it is a run of the mill thing to watch a big club walk in and bid high for a player, on the grounds of a series of impressive performances for the country, in this case, Dzagoev’s father/agent has asked his son to make the move only after some introspection. But again, a man like Levy is shrewd enough to attract talent and will surely make this deal look sweet from the outside provided Spurs’ interest in the player is strong.
Internacional Show Forlan Interest
Latest reports quote an interest in Inter striker Diego Forlan from Brazilian side Internacional’s vice-president, Lucian Davi. The 33 year-old is reportedly on the verge of turning into a Bosman amidst a rebuilding of the Nerazzurri this summer.
“Internacional will have to be creative to know how to handle this kind of situation. If Forlan becomes a free agent, we will have to work something out regarding his wages.” – Davi
THT Verdict: Likely
Forlan enjoyed his time in Spain with Villarreal and Atletico Madrid. However, his stay in Italy hasn’t really been of a similar taste.
The Uruguayan striker managed just two goals in fourteen appearances for Internazionale last season and doesn’t look to be in a shape to continue his career at a top club. Being at Internacional means the player would be closer to home at the closing stages of his club career, something that the likes of Ronaldo and Deco have done previously.
Liverpool Want Demba Ba
Liverpool were interested in signing Demba Ba in the winter transfer window of 2012 and according to Daily Mail, have once again emerged with interest in the Newcastle Striker.
THT Verdict: Maybe
There is no doubt that Liverpool are in dire need of another striker who is better settled to the Premier League while Suarez and Carroll are still prepping for a diminutive partnership. Ba was exceptional for the Magpies last season, scoring 15 goals and helping his team to a fifth place finish. The striker is said to be available for just 7 million pounds.
Given the fact that he has had a successful marriage to the English Premier League, any fears of the striker fitting into the squad won’t be on Rodgers’ mind if he does decide to make a move for him. The only question is, will Ba fit into the style that Brendan Rodgers aims to preach?
