Manchester City are ready to cool down interest in Robin Van Persie, Maicon seems Chelsea bound, David Silva to cost 80 million while Baines could be a United player soon.
Man City may pull out of Van Persie chase
The Robin van Persie saga continues to dominate the transfer window. In an interview with The Sun Mancini has come out and distanced himself from any rumour linking him with a deal for Robin.
THT Verdict: Wait and watch
With van Persie on holiday, there are no shortage of suitors for the Arsenal man. Juventus, Man City and even PSG have shown intent in getting the Dutch striker. Man City have been considered favourites throughout the summer, thus Mancini’s comments are surprising. He said “We have four strikers and we will start the pre-season in five days, it’s unlikely there will be major changes in such a short time“, which doesn’t really pour cold water on a deal. Long summer to go, and this is surely one to keep an eye on.
Chelsea closing in on Maicon
Chelsea’s search for a right back following Bosingwa’s departure has brought them to Italy, where Marca report that Maicon could soon be a Chelsea player. Chelsea have been previously linked to the Brazilian and with a dearth of right backs in the transfer market have turned their focus on Maicon.
THT Verdict:Very Likely
This looks like a perfect match. Maicon has just one year remaining on his contract, and at 30, he would look for assurances to stay while Chelsea need a right back. The fact that Maicon has had discussions with Chelsea is an indicator of their interest in him. There was initial interest from PSG, but that has cooled down, and now Chelsea appear to be favourites for the Brazilian’s signature. Sounds like a great deal for both parties.
Manchester United look to wrap up Leighton Baines
Reports in England understand that Leighton Baines could soon be a Manchester United player, with Baines unsure of his future. Sir Alex looks to bolster the left hand side of defence before the season begins. The price quoted is 15 million GBP but could include bonuses and add-ons, subject to negotiation.
THT Verdict : Very highly likely
Leighton Baines has been one of the top left backs in the league for the past two seasons now, and with Patrice Evra fast fading, United want to address their problems at left back. Jordi Alba has chosen to join Barcelona, reducing options further. Everton hav slapped a 15 million pricetag on Baines, but could be too tempted to accept big money for a player who is 28 in December. Everton can rebuild with the money, while United will get their man. Legit enough.
Sigurdsson could still join Liverpool
Another transfer saga might be heading for a final twist, as Icelandic midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson finally chooses between Liverpool and Tottenham. The former Swansea player isn’t influenced by money, but wants playing assurances and would decide on those grounds alone, so say his dad in an interview to the media.
THT Verdict: Wait and watch
Liverpool were in pole position all along, when suddenly Tottenham threw their hat in the ring for Gylfi. The Icelandic midfielder has been in demand for quite some time now, and it will be extremely surprising if this story doesn’t get a fitting climax. After reports of a Tottenham medical, Gylfi’s father came out and openly appreciated Rodgers. What does Gylfi’s future hold? We have to wait for him to let us know himself later during the week.
David Silva to Madrid for £80million?
The Sunday Mirror claim that Man City have slapped an eye-brow raising £80million price tag on their midfield maestro David Silva. This after Jose Mourinho showed a strong interest in taking the Spaniard to Madrid.
THT Verdict: Unlikely
Manchester City are the English champions and would like to defend their crown. Losing their best players wouldn’t be such a good idea and thus the jaw dropping figure put on David Silva. Real Madrid have been strongly linked with Silva, who scored in the final, and might now look at other options. As far as the deal goes, this might be the last we hear of it.
