Sahin to somewhere, Javi Martinez to Bayern Munich, Alvaro Pereira to Inter Milan; a Mexican ‘Zorro’ and more in TheHardTackle’s daily round up.
WHO WILL HE SAHIN FOR?
Nuri Sahin’s permanent transfer from Borussia Dortmund to Real Madrid was done quicker than his proposed loan transfer to wherever. In what now threatens to be the longest running loan move saga in the history of football, Sahin’s mind swings about like a pendulum between North London and Merseyside. While the papers were sure about him having signed for Arsenal just yesterday, today he is set to sign for Liverpool. Or wait; if you will believe the Independent, it is still Arsenal. Some like to play it safe though.
TheHardTackle Verdict – It still looks likely to be Arsenal. They are in the Champions League and that is a huge draw for any player. Madrid are apparently unhappy about Arsenal’s desire to buy him outright rather than get him on a loan move.
MARTINEZ TO BAYERN DELAYED
Javi Martinez’ transfer from Athletic Bilbao colours to the red of Bayern Munich is merely being delayed by red tape according to Munich CEO Karl Heinz Rumminegge. Martinez however has kept his wage demands at a minimum to help quicken the process but his parent club Bilbao are proving to be the proverbial villain of this piece. Meanwhile, Stefan Effenberg doesn’t think Martinez is worth all the hassle. Der Tiger feels the Bilbao man isn’t on par with Iniesta or Xavi. One can only hope that the Munich fans won’t harbour similar expectations.
TheHardTackle Verdict – Bayern Munich should have this one wrapped up eventually. Bilbao do seem somewhat resigned to losing the player as he was left out of the squads that faced Real Betis and HJK Helsinki.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s new found admiration for Mexican players with peculiar nicknames continues. After Chicharito (Javier Hernandez) and Gokan (Angelo Henriquez), he’s set to go after Hector Miguel Herrera aka Zorro. However Liverpool and Brendan Rodgers are all set to rival United in their pursuit of the youngster. The player himself has played a ‘feigning ignorance’ part to the T, despite claims to the contrary by his own club president Andres Fassi. Here’s hoping that the mask is lifted soon.
TheHardTackle Verdict – Manchester United do need a player in central midfield and Herrera could be the man. Having lost out on Lucas Moura and Robert Lewandowski reportedly, Ferguson wouldn’t like to lose out again. Liverpool seem to have more of a serious interest in Nuri Sahin and Clint Dempsey. So, it does look as if United are ahead at the moment.
ALVARO PEREIRA TO INTER MILAN
After openly flirting with Chelsea all through last summer and more, Alvaro Pereira looks set instead to make a move through to Seria giants Inter Milan. Recent reports coming in suggest that the defender has in fact signed for Inter on a four year deal. The difference in valuation between this summer and last is stark as the deal seems to have been concluded for a mere €10M; as opposed to last summer when the asking price was over €20M.
TheHardTackle Verdict – Going by all accounts, this is pretty much a done deal and could represent a good buy for Inter who seem to be making a few smart moves in the market. The club have also recently concluded the loan signing of Walter Gargano from Napoli.
JARVIS A HAMMER?
Sam Allardyce’s West Ham look to have finally succeeded in grabbing Wolves winger Matt Jarvis. Story goes that West Ham have been trying without success all summer, finally a massive hoof (bid of £7.5m rising to £10.75m), got them to the target. With Jarvis’ introduction however, there will be Hammers blowing bubbles all over hoping that the style of football is reinvigorated. Hopefully they won’t burst.
TheHardTackle Verdict – Should be a very good signing for West Ham, as the winger normally has a consistent end product and a strong work ethic.
