Ryan Giggs Confident of Cleverley’s Success
Tom Cleverley has made an impressive start to this season’s Premier League campaign with United, starting in all three matches so far. The English midfielder featured in last night’s demolition of Moldova. Based on his performances it looks like he could very well grab a permanent place in the national team.
Ryan Giggs, the Manchester United veteran, who teamed up with Cleverley in the Great Britain squad for the recently concluded London Olympics, is hugely impressed with the United youngster. In an interview Giggs said that Cleverley’s career hasn’t taken off as it should have due to his injuries, but now that he has recovered, the 23-year-old can become a mainstay for club and country.
“He is a really good player. He had a really good start last season and then got injured and it was a bit of a stuttering season. But, this year, I was with him at the Olympics and he was brilliant and he has started the season on fire. Hopefully he can go through the season injury-free and I am sure he will play lots of games for United and England.” – Giggs was quoted in SkySports.
With Roy Hodgson focusing on youth for the upcoming world cup, Cleverley can grab the No.10 role in the team as he showed against Moldova.
Cattermole Backs Adam Johnson’s To Make The World Cup Squad
Lee Cattermole, who played with Adam Johnson during his Middlesbrough days, has backed his present Sunderland team-mate to make it to Roy Hodgson’s World Cup squad eventually.
Johnson left Manchester City this summer to sign for Sunderland. He had very limited opportunities at City and consequently his place in the national team all looked in doubt. He will be hoping to resurrect his career at Sunderland once again. Johnson was left out of Roy Hodgson’s squad for the recently concluded World Cup qualification match against Moldova and the upcoming match against Ukraine due to a thigh injury. But Lee Cattermole believes that his team mate is at an age where he can only improve and Sunderland is the right place for him to grab a place for the World Cup in Brazil.
“To come back to the North-east, he will get a lot of attention around here. Sometimes that’s hard to handle. But Johnno’s a great lad and he’s shown the desire to come because he wants to play. He’s going to further his career, kick on and be a full England international all the time. I’m sure when the next World Cup comes along, he’s going to be in it. Jonno is a phenomenal player and to have him here at the age he’s at is brilliant for the club. He’s in the prime of his career and he’s only going to get better.” – Cattermole said to the press.
Praise For Arsenal Star Abou Diaby
Diaby is back and how! The Arsenal midfielder followed up his man of the match performance against Liverpool last weekend with a match winning display for France. Abou Diaby, who was long touted as the man to eventually replace Viera in the Arsenal line-up as well as in the national team, has spent most of his previous two seasons in the medical room. This season he has started afresh making three consecutive appearances for the Gunners (which in itself is a feat for him) and has shown the world why he was rated so highly by Arsene Wenger.
Diaby made a return to the national team after a very long time and marked this occasion by scoring the only goal of the match as France defeated Finland in their opening World Cup qualification match.
“He is a boy with a lot of qualities, but I knew that. He is a complete midfielder.” – France Coach Didier Deschamps
Even Lille midfielder and Diaby’s partner in the French midfield Rio Mavuba has praised the Arsenal man and highlighted his importance to the team saying that he is “indispensable for the France squad” -
“He has again proved his qualities and that he can dictate the tempo. I hope he carries on like that.” – Mavuba said.
Diaby was pleased with his comeback performance and in an interview to L’Equipe he said -
“It was a good return, I was pleased. I hope this will be the real return.”
It looks like the talented midfielder is finally coming of age and if he can remain fit for the rest of the season, Arsenal’s midfield will be the one to look out for.
Bacary Sagna Concerned With Arsenal’s Woes; Yet To Begin Contract Talks
Arsenal full-back Bacary Sagna has vented his frustration at the growing habit of the club selling its top players every summer. Arsenal have failed to hold on to some of the best talents across Europe such as Samir Nasri, Cesc Fabregas and Alex Song in the recent past which has led to much trepidation amongst players and fans alike. While it is natural for a fan to react openly on such a prevailing situation, once a player comes out in public echoing the same words, it proves something is wrong with the way the club is run.
“At Arsenal you come back after holidays, you make preparations, and you see two players leave and the season resumes – it has been like that since I have been at the club. I am used to it now.” – Sagna, on the exodus of top players from the club every season.
In addition, he has also refused to rule out the possibility of a move away from the Emirates himself, considering his contract situation remains unresolved.
“Has the club contacted me about an extension? No, no one.”
“Could I be tempted to leave? I just want to play again and be good again with Arsenal so far. Then, we will see. Each person has his own destiny.”
